Duramax Suburban - IFS Rebuild

all in all that's pretty basic stuff. Those ref's are kinda like building inspectors, you need to let them "find" something.

I agree. Although I am sad for you, I think those are all "easy" fixes for the most part. At least he didn't say it can't have a duramax. Lol that would be harder to work around.

The fuel level thing is going to be tricky. That may be a "code" that was triggered with some tuning. Dmax and suburban fuel level senders are reversed. I THINK travis manually reversed the float direction to get by this, but not sure. Whatever fuel level tuning was done is probably the code. I've also heard the amount of "sloshing" fuel from one tank to the other can cause the gauge to freak out (my intermittent empty) and possibly throw the code.

Planning to send the EMC to Idaho Rob and have him read it, and hopefully give me some insight before he reflashes it. Wish i had visibility into it, may invest in what i need to do so.....

Wish i had a local mechanic with EFI live that i knew and trusted!

Don't know how close they really are to you but I used to go to left coast diesel back when I was more into diesels. Not even sure if they do efilive as that was only for duramaxes when I had my Cummins. They were north/east bay.

Thanks for the suggestion. Living up in truckee and working in reno, so hopefully I can find someone up there

Contact Dmaxstore at 1(877)469-3629. Ask for Mike. That's the Duramax shop in Placerville that was previously mentioned. One of their technicians built two Duramax Suburbans already.

Badass. That's a huge resource. Thanks!

Have heard great things about Idaho rob, but this idea of having someone good local that has done this is a huge step forward. The issue is that fixing this fuel thing, well enough to pass, and then properly so the gauge and transfer pump works will definitely take more than one program. The downtime and troubleshooting remotely of having to send the ECM out will take some time.

Can't wait to call him tmr. I just spent way too much time in the garage, and with work and wedding planning right now, this is a good issue to let someone handle for me.

IMG_4621.JPG This picture sums up some my the silly struggles I've had with this thing.

It's always seeped out the axle shafts. I resealed the old axle twice, and now I have a Completley different housing, and it still seeps. Apparently I suck at sealing them. Just cleaning off and using rtv, didn't think it was that tough!

If you're going with Idaho Rob, do all shipping and billing from Reno. He won't deal with you if you're in California. Even if your credit card shows a California billing address, he will deny you service.

I plan on having him tune my truck, have to have a friend in AZ order and pay for it ship to his house and the he'll ship it to me. Major pain in the ass.

Luckily, not really doing tuning. Assuming he is ok with stock programs going to California. Good tip though

And now the truck killed both its batteries dead, in 36 hrs of sitting. And it is always impossible to jump. ****.

what's he have against Calif?
efi live is illegal in California. If he sells to Cali, they can go after him. His website clearly states he will cancel any order to California, and I've been told if you even call him from a California phone he won't deal with you. More and more diesel shops are getting this way.

What are your exact codes that are set? And what does he mean by they are not the factory tunes? Is he checking calibration numbers and OS numbers? How would he know which ones are supposed to be in your vehicle when your vehicle has an engine several years newer installed? Your OS number would be different if you are running dual tanks vs single tanks, for example, but the actual engine calibration would not be any different.

Give us all the information you can and maybe we can get you set up straight the first time without any re-work on your re-flash from wherever. I can provide you with factory tunes based on VIN and flash them into your PCM as well. I can also disable any engine MIL enablers or diagnostics codes with EFILive so they'd never show up on his scan tool. We can also modify the emissions test criteria to make them pass as well.
