Duramax Suburban - IFS Rebuild

Sounds like he only needs to fill the front tank and test that theory. That would be an easy fix.
Someone online make a good blockoff to isolate the rear tank from sloshing. Gotta find it.

If I modify hoses under the truck, I'm nervous they will freak out at the smog center.

Once I get through the ref, I plan on custom fuel gauge and dual tank tune, so whatever I do will be temp.

Planning to send the EMC to Idaho Rob and have him read it, and hopefully give me some insight before he reflashes it. Wish i had visibility into it, may invest in what i need to do so.....

I would do this but odds are I may get a call since its a conversion, call from Rob..... One of the biggest issues guys have with the conversion is getting the dual tank setup working properly. Depending on where it was done..... Most guys do not have the equipment to put the correct base tune i it. That requires a tech 2 or above. Russell brought up a bunch of good points but not all can be cured with just an ECM flash.

Right now, I'm not worried about the dual tanks. Just about getting it smog compliant. Have not been able to catch up with Russel, so probably sending it to rob on Monday for a stock tune. That, or talking it to a local guy.

It's complex..... I'm the sub that does his gas tuning and helps with the conversions. Wiring and comms.

There will soon be brand new Duramax swap harnesses out on the market.

Put the steel felpro gaskets in the hub flanges. Hope those seal better.

Drove the truck all weekend. No issues other than throwing the stuck float code during another long downhill section.

Pulled the ECM to get it in the mail to Idaho Rob tomorrow. Don't expect any issues with a stock tune coming back to CA.

Hopefully a stock reflash gets me through!

ATP will have the ECM Wednesday, and should have it back in the mail this week. No issues with California residence with my stock tune.

Fingers crossed!

Thanks for your time Russ! Got some further tuning education from Russel tonight.

Sounding like I should be good once i get the stock tune.

Russ, forgot to ask, can you pull the tune number from GM for my vin? Want to be able to run a double check once I get it back, just in case, before running down to the smog ref.

Thanks!

OS ID is going to depend on generation of gear doing the flashing. Russ has a tech 2, which I think got updated recently, Rob may end up using an MDI to to flash straight from gm. So if there is an OS update it's only going to be on the most recent update.

Now, I say that but Rob may have a different OS he likes for conversions. Some allow us to do many things others do not. With that said.... are all your systems tied together still? Ecm, Tcm, body control.......

I understand you probably hold little value to a single word I type due to me being unknown. That's cool, just trying to help. If you say F off, no harm no foul. I'll be on my way.

Absolutely not. I know very little about these systems, and welcome all the help I can get! Always appreciate help like yours.

Once I get through smog, you are my next phone call for details on Dual tank tune.

As for system still tied together, i'm not sure. ECM is donor Vin. Cluster was from the donor (although DIC doesn't work from steering wheel, or donor never had DIC). Other than that, how would i know? Assuming body control is still from the Burb, which would mean they aren't vin matched, but they seem to be working....

12632666 is the fuel system cal ID your VIN calls for. You have 12632667 right now.

I am fairly certain that your calibrations are all completely stock and untouched since the calibration verification numbers match GM's lists for them. That would mean that the builder would have changed the VIN in either your Duramax stuff to match the Burb, or the VIN in the burb stuff to match the Duramax stuff and then performed a VATs relearn to pair it all together.

I don't believe the builder did any changes in EFILive to activate or disable anything for the swap. Assuming that CVNs are checksums, of course.

ATP does quick work. Received this morning, back in the mail today. Should have it tomorrow, if not before the weekend.

Allows me to drop the computer in this weekend, and sort our a last few issues. Probably can't get to the Ref til first week in december, shackles are pretty tight at work right now...

Got the ECM in, no relearn needed. Fired right up.

Programming number matches Russell's recommendation.

When I replaced the axle shaft seals, the bearings were a touch loose, so I snugged them down a notch on the locking nut.

Also, replaced the belt. F whoever designed that, never spent over an hour on a belt. Had to remove top of shroud, lower splash guard, and still barely had room. No way that could be done roadside, so glad I noticed it getting old.

Should be ready for the ref when I can get it back down there

Ref seems to be closed next week. Planning to take a sick day when I can get an appointment.

Really need to get this thing through smog so I can put new tires on it. Been trying to not spend money on it til its legal, but the 245 duelers are like ice skates in the snow. No idea what guys do with empty truck beds.

Can't wait to have proper 285 bfg at's on it. Just need to decide on rim style...and budget.
