Dust Covers for front Hubs

any chance of finding a nice set of the yellow selector dials?
Those are the yellow dials. :eek1::doah: They're just faded.

Best bet is to keep your eyes open for a NOS set of plastic knobs on eVilbay.

Good luck on that. I've been watching for the yellow and blue knobs for a while now. I will even fight you for those. Make sure you have plenty of coin to outbid me.

Shifter looks like 203 to me...but it's not a great close up pic either.

Does the shifter say "Hurst" on it?

Rene

early 205 shifter should be a big kinda flat smooth knob with the shift pattern on it. that really looks like a 203 shifter+boot+knob combo.
i looked at some other pics in the build thread, and it looks like it has the knob with the 4 wheels in white w/lines in between them. like a 203 should have.

I really don't know...I'll have to look at it when I get home...I have never really paid that much attention to the 4x4 shifter.....now you have got me curious...I gotta look underneath real closely at the sticker on that transfer case.

Hey...I have already seen a thread on this forum where you had some NOS in the package....you can't have them all.:screwy:

I know I can't have them all but I can have the ones I don't have. :deal::deal::deal:

Take a pic while you're under there...

Yep, what Rene said.....take pics of the shifter inside and the t-case underneith.

Here's the pics of the shifter....I'll get the transfer case this weekend:

No jokes....looks like the end of my knob is worn off :eek1:

Now you got my attention...I went out there and held the camera underneath:

Yep, thats definitely a 205!

NOT!

Just kidding. Its the dreaded 203 'case. Good for nothing but a boat anchor or the Doubler swap.

You won't be able to use the shifter on a 205. Both are different and not interchangable.

Well that wrecks my day....

It was sold to me as having a 205 on it...looks like somebody did a swap on me...

I've been all smug and all thinking I was cool sitting on a 205....what's the deal with a 203? If I am not crawling? Is it worth my while to shop for a 205?
So what do I do with a 203? That means I can't put locking hubs on it doesn't it?

They're both strong cases, they both have nearly identical low ranges. If it makes you feel better, both rigs Brody drove were TH350/203 rigs. Think of it as being "more correct" for a Amity PD Blazer build.

You could add a part time kit to the 203 and run locking hubs if you are dead set on part time...or swap in a 205 yourself.

I think the seller just made a mistake, the 203 and 205 are similar looking unless you're a T-case geek like a lot of us here. I do not think anybody swapped anything out of your truck. The 203 is what it should have had, which is why I asked you for shifter pics and T-case pics. The only Blazers that got the auto tranny and 205 were the 6 cylinder rigs (pretty uncommon)

What is full time 4wd? If it is in Neutral, what's happening with the 203?

What's a part time kit? Does it save much fuel?

and it does make me feel better to know that I am Brody "correct"...and he had dust caps!

I won't get this written in time, but here goes.

With a 205 or any part time case, when you put it into 4wd, the front and rear driveshafts are locked together.
So, if you try to make a turn on dry pavement, or drive a long distance, things bind up since some tires are trying to turn farther than others.

In 2wd, if you have hubs that will unlock and disconnect the axles from the hubs, then the entire front end does not turn. which reduces wear on the parts and the power it takes to turn all those gears is not wasted.

With yours, you basically have a differential inside the transfer case.
The front and rear are engaged all the time unless its in neutral. But, with the differential it lets the two drive shafts turn at different speeds.
In fact, one can turn at full speed while the other is as zero.
So, if you jacked up one end, the other would not pull you off the jack.

When you put it in lock, you bypass the differential in the transfer case and lock the shafts together like a 205.

With a part time kit, you do away with the differential in the case, and you replace that geared chunk you had to pull out to get to the wheel hub nuts with a locking hub.

Then, when you put it in 2WD, only the rear shaft turns.

BTW, Jeep really did have a better idea with their part time system when it first came out.
The differential in their Quadratrack transfer case was a limited slip differential.

So that if one wheel lost traction, the other three would still pull without having to put it in lock.

Well, now that you (and the rest of us) know what you have, just stick with the full time stuff for now and get new dust caps like you originally intended. Thus keeping it original.
