Dyno'ed my Blazer while I had the chance

So a few friends and I meet up for a Dyno day at a new shop. They all have Mustangs and play the horsepower game (as did I). I drove my K5 there, and some of them drove their DD's, and dyno'd them. They suggested I dyno it while laughing.
So I decided why not. My truck ran 164 HP, and 216 TQ. Its what I expected even though dyno's can be heart breakers. They guys with 03-04 Cobras were pissed at their results! Have you dyno'd your stuff before? I'll give specifics on air, fuel, more details soon.

Ive been on a dyno b4. 99% of the ppl that get on one are dissapointed. Most of the time they believe all the hype of aftermarket parts, like Exhaust 20-30hp, CAI 10-25hp, Chips 20-30hp, Pulleys 10-20hp. ANd if you added that up, its close to 100hp. Stick that on a car say with 200hp stock, add that stuff and Id bet youd be lucky to get 50hp on the dyno. Ppl forget about driveline loss and the fact that alot of stuff doesnt compute well when your sitting still, i.e. Ram AIr setups, they are designed to be moving and ramming air in. Anyways.

I had a 99 Neon R/T. I put a bunch of money into the intake (ported and polished) matched TB, headwork, UD pulleys , exhaust and cams. Also a 75shot of nitrous. On the dyno I had 180hp, 150tq. Stock is 150hp/120tq. I was shooting for over 200hp but came up pretty short, my exhaust wasnt optimum so that couldve played a small role. Point being I wouldve needed some serious headwork and bigger pistons to get over 200hp. The thing is, my car only weighed 2400lbs with me in, full interior, a/c , etc etc. I could smoke any stock mustang and some modded ones. It was funny hearing them cry cuz they got beat by a neon, then they give me **** for having nitrous. Im like oh well. you still got beat by a neon. lol. Now put some gears, tires, exhaust and nitrous on a mustang and I wouldnt have a chance. But most times the mustang guys were idiots. lol.

Id be horrified if I put my Blazer on a dyno. 305cid with 125k with carb and exhaust.

Also, dyno results can and do vary from dyno to dyno. This accounts for a lot of anomalies you see in comparing dyno results.

Ok, my air fuel is at 16 through 2500 RPMs, 14 at 3200, then drops to 12 through 4000 RPM's. BTW, They reved it to 4300. Made max power at 3700.

I dyno'd mine a couple years ago. I was running a TBI motor with 110,000 miles on it and an S-Trim Vortech with 5lbs boost. It made less than 235 hp. I probably could have put a smaller pulley on and gotten it over 275 hp but it was a daily driver at the time and I don't think the motor would have been happy.

I used to work at a DYNO shop in HS and we used the dyno mainly to tune cars and rarely to pull #'s because at the time they put too much stress on the cars. The modern dynos do a full pull in 10 seconds and don't do much wear and tear.

My '05 CRF50 with a 107cc motor and upgrades made 12hp.

Probably with a chip. That assumes your injectors are good of course.

Interesting results, people might want to take note.

Cool beans dude, what company makes a good chip available for my 88K5? You can adjust the peramiters?

Cheapest one-time method will be to pay someone to do it.

Brian at TBIchips.com is probably a number one recommendation from most who have dealt with him. Should be able to talk/email him and get some answers.

I did it to mine MPFI454 465/205

I had the A/F WAY off...

:haha::haha::haha::haha:so true.

I laid down right about 200HP and 300ft lbs on the dyno jet a few years ago. I was pretty happy, because that meant I was well over 300HP at the crank, and that is what I was hoping for when I put together my motor.

An adjustable FPR would help you a bit. You are too lean at low rpms. You should be runing around 12 to one eariler in the rpm band at WOT. Stock setting is 9-12 PSI which isn't the greatest for performance.
14 PSI is where I get the best performance. My G-tech says I am putting around 180 HP to the ground..
I am running headers into 3" single flowmaster. Stock CAI, 46MM (590 CFM) TB, flow matched injectors, Injector spacer, Open plentium TB spacer, Velocity stack, MSD ECT,
For DD street I run around 12.5 psi. I take too much of a mpg hit running 14PSI
