Having some difficulty replacing an e-brake cable that came apart.

Frame is supposedly an '81. Got an '85 cab bolted to it, so that means at earliest it can be a '76 as I recall (whenever the floor changed, right?) and the latest it can be is '83 or '84, since the e-brake is the "old" style, with a forward, middle, and two rear cables, the rear cables being equal length.

I *thought* I took these cables off the 10 bolt that was originally in the truck, which would have had to have been the same vintage. I have a 14SF in there now, but the only "factory" 14SF cables I would have been able to use would have been '82-84 (or '83? whenever parking brake cable layout changed), and this is a 6 lug 14SF, so they are not the cables from it.

I ordered cables for an '82 K5 (Wagner/Federal Mogul). They don't work. The odd thing is that while sheathing length is a problem (puts a very long bend in the cable as the sheath is longer than what I have) the "flange" end that clips to the frame bracket is different. The aftermarket cables are so small that where they are supposed to clip to the frame bracket nearly pulls through. The "factory" cable flange is about .8" diameter. The aftermarket cable flange is right around .625", which will eventually or immediately pull through the bracket.

I can't figure out what piece I could possibly have in there that isn't what I think it should be...the rear brake cables seem to be the same for any 10 bolt truck that vintage, all the length differences being made up in the intermediate or front cables. I've checked two different aftermarket cables now, and both of them are the same flange diameter, which would be an odd mistake for two manufacturers to replicate, I think.

The only "different" style I've seen are these https://www.amazon.com/Raybestos-BC92882-Parking-Brake-Cable/dp/B00IACDOJE which I'm pretty sure are 14FF. The parts guy thought they might be an aftermarket solution to use bolts, but I don't think so, and even if my thought was wrong, I'm pretty sure there isn't enough room there to bolt that assembly in place.

Bushing the hole isn't much of an option as the bracket is already so thick that the clip to retain it had to be beaten on and off with a punch to make it fit.

Anyone else run into this? Ideas? Got an "early" frame without brake cables on it you can check the brackets hole diameter for me?

Follow-up:

Kudos to both rockauto and LMCtruck.

Rockauto simply credited me the price of the cables. No return or anything. Makes sense, they are just over $4/ea.

I emailed LMC and told them my dilemma, asked the dimensions of what they sell. They got back to me a couple of days later, and told me the flange on their cables are .75" (vs. ~.625" on the Rockauto/local cables).

Paid 3 times as much from LMC vs. what Rockauto was selling, and about twice as much as local, but those parts don't work. I might have been able to make them work, but for $4-8, my time is worth more. I'll see what happens when I get the parts. I'd like to get this thing rolling again. :)
