E-Brake cables 14 bolt full float swap (pics added)

Was looking at my 87 K5 10 bolt today and noticed the E-brake cables have different ends then the 1978 14 bolt full float I have from a 3/4 truck. Curious a way around this to get cables to work for swap. Thanks in advance guys :waytogo:

I took the little clip that the E brake cable connects to and hooked it right up to my OEM Brake cable.
At first it was a little loose but with some adjustments I got it to work with no problem.

your cable hook up looks to be on passenger side and mine is driver side and has a threaded in on it. Might help if I can get a picture and post it up.
 
I have one of those on each side. The cable loops between the 2.

Here's the chinga tamale that connects the loop to the brake to the pedal.

Don't pay too much attention on how it's hooked up right now, I'm in the middle of a project and it is temporarily hooked up here.

Here is the side view of where it was hooked up before.

The cable was on the outside of the driver side frame rail. You can see the stripe where is was last week.

I cut off that bracket to mount a cross member there. I still need to relocate the E brake cable mount.

I could have sworn my original brake cable hooked up to the 14 and I tossed the one from the 14 (since it was from a pickup). I was starting from a 12-bolt though...

OP can look at the LMC catalog for exploded parts diagrams. IIRC, there's two VERY different parking brake cable setups, one for 73-80-something, and one for the 80-something and up.

The early one is one loop with the pull in the middle, and the later one is more like a Y shape. Also, the attachment points at the axle changed, so you'd have better luck with backing plates from a similar year truck -- like on my '74, the '79ish axle had the right plates and I could cross-use parts pretty easy. Mixing and match is harder.

To the OP, I don't know if you mean the axle end is different where it attaches to the backing plate, or the free end of the cable that goes towards the pedal. Are we talking about bracket problems, or the cable itself?

Again, you can look at the LMC catalog to see how either arrangement is supposed to work, that may be helpful.

What do you mean? notice difference in our brake cables etc now?

When I first saw your pic I thought the bump stop was hitting something. Now that I look again I see my eyes are playing tricks on me.

I'm not familiar with your parking brake set up. Sorry, I can't help. :dunno:
 
and you guy's thought I was full of sh%t lol that is why I posted a pic of my e brake cables hoping someone here could help but over 300 views and only 4 replies and one didn't count :haha:. Filling left out and curious what to do.
 
guess from doing research i need newer style 3/4 ton backing plates with push in cables wtf Sure everyone has them laying around.
 
Post found from ThatK30Guy You need to find any 3/4 ton backing plates from either a FF or SF as both will work as long as their both 13" drum shoe size.

The years to look for are '83 on up. '82 on down will have equal-length cables.

If you look closely, you will see the equal-length cables are fastened to the plates by 2 nuts/bolts where the '83 on up use press-in type cables.

Either look for a SF rear or another FF from '83 on up and you will be set.
