I just swapped out my six-lug front and rear axles for a 4.10 geared eight-lugs. The rear is a FF 14-bolt corporate type. Both the front and back are from a 79 Chevy (not sure what). Anyhow, the e-brake setup on the 14 bolt is completely different than the stock cables, both at the brake backing plate and forward to the pedal. I tried and failed on a kind of hybrid deal so I'm thinking I'll have to get the whole mechanism from the foot pedal back from a wrecking yard. My question: What years had the same e-brake setup on the Suburban. Thanks. The first photo is the original at the backing plate and the second, the 14 bolt.

IIRC 80 was the last year of the old setup 81 was the new setup.
You can actually install the new setup on the old axle so you don't have to mess with everything, you just need the cables for the 14bff for your year and model.
You might need to change the backing plate, but then again you might not.

Thanks. I'll take a look at the newer setup.
