A couple of days ago, I used my parking brake. When I released it, the light stayed on. It has been on ever since. What could cause this?

try just slightly lifting up on the ebrake lever that you press down.. mine got stuck down like that so the light stayed on so i had to ziptie mine up to the dash.. haha stupid thing.

I found out after I had unknowingly bent the cable bracket underneath the truck ( frame slide :pimp: ) , that the cable would not return all the way .

Won't hurt to check the cable for binding at all .

Try pulling up on the pedal , if the light goes out , that could be it , in the cable .

The truck is a 1984 GMC K1500 305 4 speed
I don't think the truck has any fluid level sensors to trigger the light.

Sure it does, it's on the proportioning valve.

Low fluid on one side will trigger it, as will a leak in the front or rear of the system.

About 3 months ago, fluid was leaking out of one of the rear wheel cylinders. The leak has been gone since. I had no idea that the truck(no computer) has the ability to sense a leak. I always thought that the red brake dash light sensed P brake engagement only. I'm pretty sure that the p brake is fully released, so there must be a leak in the system or low fliud level. Correct? Thanks for all of the info

Mine came on when I had a bad hose on a front caliper when I pushed the pedal it pushed all the fluid out and the pressure diff tripped the light.

I had the same problem in my '91 k5. Didn't think much about it untill i was driving down a country road and hit my cruise control, everthing was going fine untill i saw a stop sign ahead. I engaged the brake but the cruise would not disengage! My quick action allowed me to hit the off switch on the cruise control and I was able to break. Well it turns out I had a blown taillight fuse. This casue the dash brake light to stay on. And with out rear break lights the cruise will not deactivate. So a 50 cent fuse almost caused me to wreck! So you may want to check and see when you push your break pedal that your tail lights are lighting up.

I too have the dreaded brake light on option installed in my truck :haha:

it is not low fluid in mine... did this before i even went to disc brakes too.... I just ignore it right now.....but someday gotta fix it.. some times I look down and it is off and some times it is on....
