well I have been thinking about painting the frame on my blazer for a while, I was gonna do POR15 but its expensive and not uv protectant. Has anyone used eastwood chassis black? how does it hold up? and how good does it look when you brush it on?

Thanks

by the way here is what my frame looks like now

I have been using Duplicolor's Spray on bed liner. It's $7 a can at Wal-Mart. It makes a horrible bedliner because it is so thin, but has held up well on my frame, gas tank, etc.

I've got a can of chassis black extreme but haven't used it yet. I'll be putting it over Rust Bullet.

Sorry I can't give a better opinion:(

I've used lots of the Eastwood paints on my truck.

The Chassis Black is a nice high-solids paint, and holds up pretty well. Read the instructions carefully....not all Eastwood products are compatible.

For example, the Rust Encapsulator is not designed to be used under the Chassis Black... so you need to know which products to use to correctly prep the surface.

Chassis Black comes in two levels of gloss.... one is a high-gloss, and the other is a more "satin" factory black finish. They are great for restoration work since they do replicate the look of the factory finishes.

I've used the Alumablast, and Detail Grey for other parts where I wanted to replicate a fresh cast iron, or aluminum look...

I have only ever bought the spray cans so I can't comment on how well a brush-on product might "flow" and look. Again, read the directions...they might tell you to thin it slightly to help the brush marks blend in better.

Overall though, I give high marks to the Eastwood products. :waytogo:

Any of the chassis photos in my gallery show the Chassis Black paint. That's all I've used on my suspension parts....check them out if you're interested.

I've used POR15, Eastwood's Rust Encapsulator, and Magnet Paint's Chassis Saver.

POR15 is okay but yeah, it isn't UV stable and it shrinks.

Rust Encapsulator...despite what Eastwood claims is not a direct competitor to POR15. I did some rusty wheels with it and then painted over it and the stuff is chipping off. You can take a screw driver and pieces will scrape right off. That won't happen with POR15 or Chassis Saver. RE is just fancy paint, not convertor like POR15 and CS that form this super hard surface when they dry.

Chassis Saver is a direct competitor to POR15 and I feel that is it superior. From my experience it's got all the good qualities of the POR15 and then doesn't shrink at the edges of the applied portion. I'm planning on using it exclusively now.

Whatever you use, top coat it with something. Helps to protect the fancy stuff and also eliminates the UV worries. Big Ugly is going to get Chassis Saver where I cut the body...if the temperature ever increases again this year...doubtful...and then I will for now spray paint over it with Rustoleum Hammered Black. Eventually the lower panels are getting Rhino Liner. No more rust!
