Found a Eaton HO72 somewhat locally. Guy is asking $200 OBO.

Does the HO72 have a pilot on the pinion gear like the 14 bolt?

Are 14 bolt hubs interchangeable with the HO72 hubs? Say I wanted to put some 14FF SRW hubs on it.

The only difference between a SRW vs. DRW 14FF or H072 is the hubs correct? I noticed Ruffstuff offers a disc brake bracket for the Eaton axle so nothing drum brake wise would be of any concern to me.

Crazy expensive to rebuild.

They do have a third pinion bearing like the 14 bolt.

I believe the hubs are interchangeable but the housing is the difference between single wheel and dual wheel, not the hubs.

That big thread is a long read.
Great axle to run but is usually narrower than a 14 bolt ff.

Hubs work with expensive bearings to swap. 71 and 72 ish use 9/16 studs. The rest are 1/2. Housings and shafts are srw drw specific and shafts aren't easy to find anymore.

They are usually 4.56 gears and sometimes have a detroit. Sometimes.

Only benefit imo is the load bolt and that's a marginal benefit at best. I LOVE the h072 but it just doesn't seem to work well in a square.
If you were linking a jeep it's a bitchin axle. 63" with a housing that you can weld all over. Removable third and diff cover? 10.5 ring gear with three pinion bearings and big shafts. Great for a smaller rig.

I would just stick with a 14 BFF unless you bought an older truck that had one in it already.

I've always heard about them and thought they were a pretty badass axle.

I'll pass on this one though. First one I've ever seen pop up on Craigslist. If a SRW one pops up I may grab it.

I saw a thread on Pirate where a guy was building a super badass truck with a steering version of one with Dana 60 outters. Would have been an awesome truck but then it looked like he all of a sudden lost interest and just chopped it up and parted it out.
