Eaton rear axles HO72 ???

Disc Swap...

I plan on doing a Disc Brake Swap before putting the axle in the truck. I heard that the brakes were really expensive, and since I wanted Disc rear brakes anyways, I figure it's easier to do it outside of the truck.

Also, according to a few guys here, the 14bff brake swap works for the Eaton HO72.

Nick, I'm going to do this myself. Have not decided whose brackets I'm going to use but have emailed Kert @ DIY4X. Probably do it in Feb.

Also, per my 1970 chassis manual the only difference between an H052 and an H072 is the size of the brakes. The carrier's could be either 4 pinion or 2. Ring gears are the same. But he H072 does have the pinion bolt.

Hey Jim. So it sounds like if you have the pinion bolt, then you have an ho72 according to your manual. Ps. I have'nt seen you on this site yet. Nice to see a familiar face, or truck. Well you know what i mean. LOL. Hey Jim, your green gmc has a 4" lift correct. Is that lift rough, or tough country. Then you added 1" ords zero rates.:)

I had let my membership expire last year. I had been lurking a lot, I check this site at least once daily. Got a wild hair and renewed my membership last night.

The green truck has the 4" rough country w/ a zero-rate for about 4" of total lift. I just bought some used 4" TC springs(front and rear) and I'm going to replace the fronts and rears!

let me know how it goes. Im sure you'll like tc.s better. So with only 4" those ground hawgs fit good with no hitting/rubbing. Iknow some tires that are a given size, say 33, 34, 35 etc are really 32, 33, 34 respectively when measured.

The tires are 35-14.5/16.5 mounted on 16.5"x9.75" rims. The rims have over 4" of back spacing probably closer to 5", I'm sure that helps. I'd say the tires are only 12.5" wide and just over 34" tall.

Jim , Could you look in your 1970 service manual and see if the pinion pre-load is with a crush sleeve or various shims for the HO52/72's?
Thnaks , Tom

All i see is shims, not very detailed. I only have the chassis manual, need to get an assembly manual, which is more detailed.
