Anyone evr get this code? I read the haynes manual, but it doesn't give much info. Something about speed sensor and throttle position sensor. My truck is really running like crap loss of power, backfiring at cuising speed, rough idle, and every once in a while it just dies /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif
Any help would be great. Thnaks

tps is expensive, but will solve those kinda problems, had a friends truck that would idle at 2K rpm all the time, and then we found out the TPS voltage was wayyyyy low, so he replaced the sensor and wowwy kazowy, runs like a champ now, im wondering if that is what is wrong with mine, but i have no trouble codes.

Sounds like your VSS is bad.
A VSS problem will cause:
A code 24
The conditions for it being set is vehicle speed at 0 mph, engine speed between 1500-3000 rpm, tps less than 2% open, and the transmission not in park or neutral.
These conditions must be met for about 10 seconds.
A faulty VSS will affect the operation of the torque convertor lockup,
Idle air controll
Ignition timing.
it sounds like you are having all of the above.
The VSS is located on the back of the spedo on 89s

Is there anyway to test the VSS or the TPS before I buy them? I can't seem to find a VSS at all in the parts stores anybody know where to get one and how much $$? Thanks for everything.

Beg, borrow, or steal a scanner.

VSS is real easy to test, you see what speed the ECM says you are going, and compare it to your stock speedo. If they are different, there is a VSS issue.

If you want to throw money at the problem, you will quickly exceed the cost of an OBD1 Scanner.

find a autozone around you, they will scan your truck for free, and then help you out at solveing the problem, at least that is how it is here. i know everyone at my autozone, and they know me /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
