I picked up an ECM from a salvage yard today to hopefully fix my burb. The guy at the yard gave me a 1227747 ASDU.

My burb is an '87 TBI 350/700R4 and it's ECM says 1227747 AKAJ. Will it work?

*disclaimer* I am a TBI newb like no other:o

That's the first thing I thought of but I don't know jack about these systems and didnt wanna fug it up. Thanks man.

It's easy, just remove the two screws on the cover and remove the chip and swap it into the new ECM. The chip will only go in one way so there's no chance of screwing it up. There are two different chips under the cover and the one you want to change is the larger of the two.

thanks man.

I've been searching my ass off. Do you know of a site that tells exactly what PROM# goes with what specific model/year/etc.?

Cuz I had some running issues before(engine,trans,some wiring has been swapped before) and there's no tellin' if the ECM in it is stock.

By the way, I'm running a asdu prom in my 87 Jimmy, It originally had a California tune prom and I wanted to ditch the California tune. the asdu i got was from an 88 van with a 350

So you are running good no problems with the ASDU prom?

That website was pretty sweet. The AKAJ is what is in my truck and it was a choice for my VIN on that site so I am guessing it's stock. Here's the details it gave....

16081146, 1101, AKAJN/AS/B 88-180-6E(CHEV) S/B 88-650-108(CAN) S/B 88-T-109(GMC) S/B 88-T-25(GMC) S/B 87-650-113(CAN) S/B 87-657-109(CAN)

ECU: 1227747 MODULE ASM, ENG CONT (REMANUFACTURED)

Transmission :MD8 AUTO 4 SPD THM 700 R4;

Emission System :w/o EMISSION SYSTEM, LEADED FUEL;NA5 FEDERAL REQUIREMENTS;NA6 ALTITUDE REQUIREMENTS;

Calpak: 16051636 CALPAK ASSY (16051637 RES NET)

I'd use the AKAJ and swap it into the other ecm. Your 90 has a VSS on the transfercase instead of the mechanical speedo sensor, that may make a difference in the prom. I switched to the ASDU because I had the california tune that has timing pulled out of it to lower emissions.

My burb is an '87 and it has the mechanical cable for the speedo on the transfercase

This site should tell you what prom you need.

So what's the deal with this website? I input my niv number and it doesn't even list the correct ECM for my blazer. My blazer is factory with the 1227747 ECM and the only ECM's that come up are 161 numbers. My chip (ANLX) shows up with the 161 ECM but i know for a fact that my ECM is the original from the blazer.

I'm not sure, maybe the 2 ecm's will interchange.

Swapped ECM's, kept the ASDU chip that was already in the new ECM.......

Fired right up and idled like a champ!!!
Woo-Hoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Update: Zero problems yesterday putting around. runs fine, drives fine. No Service Engine light yet....fingers crossed. I am about to drive it an hour on the highway back to my house and we'll see what happens

How was it running with the other ecm? I've been running the asdu for several months now with no problems.

With the other ECM it ran alright but would occasionally have the SEL come on the highway if I was stuck behind a slow person or something where the RPM's dropped super low(700R4) then if I hammered on it for a minute it would clear up and light would go away.

Then one day it started acting up and wouldn't idle smooth at and when i tried giving it throttle it would act like it had a rev limiter at ~1k rpms and would bounce off it if i held the throttle. I noticed the injectors weren't firing right and replaced those and it helped. then the next time i went to fire it up it just cranked and cranked and wouldn't start.

new ECM it fired right off and runs super smooth

One other thing it used to do was die/almost die if i backed up and then stopped to go forward(like it wasn't idleing high enough to stay running). hasn't done that yet at all

Just got home from 75 mile trip with Burb. Everything is still good to go. No SEL. No leaks. No problems:D:D

update: been driving the Burb for almost 2 weeks back and forth to work and have had zero problems. Safe to say that the ASDU ECM is a direct swap:wink1:
