If I choose to rebuild my Edelbrock Q-jet do I need to buy the Edelbrock brand kit (which is expensive) or will another kit do just as well. What is the dif?

Suopposedly the Edelbrocks are a carbon copy, except I believe they had an 850CFM variant as well.

What does the edelbrock kit come with? The generic kits are basically a gasket set, with needle, seat, check valve and piston seal for the accelerator pump, and a few other small pieces I can't think of now. If the generic kits had floats, they'd likely be twice as expensive as they are.

Anyways, I am not aware of any particulars to the differences, if any, of the edelbrock q-jet, worst that can happen is you buy a kit, find out the gaskets don't fit, and sell it to me. :)

That does bring up a good question though...what style of gaskets did the edelbrocks use? There were a multitude of gaskets used with the q-jet, and while the generic kits come with usually three different gaskets for one position (I think it's the float bowl to throttle body gaskets) the carb to intake and float bowl to air horn gaskets are usually specific to the carb stamped number.

Well the Edelbrock kit does not come with a float and the cheapest I've seen it for is 40 bucks at Summit. The local Carquest wants 60. That's an interesting question about the gaskets. If I find some answers I will report. Since Edelbrock discontinued making the carb, we have to wonder how long the kits will be available. It would be good if we could find which of the other kits, if any, would work. I will try to figure out which kit to try and see. One good thing is that I already have an Edelbrock kit to compare it to. I just don't want to try my first rebuild without an extra one in case I screw something up and have to try again. It's my daily driver and when I do it, I don't want any extra down time.

I have an Edelbrock 1902 Q-jet. I bought the edelbrock rebuild kit and it didn't include the correct airhorn gasket... I went to the local auto parts store and got a rebuild kit and it worked perfectly, correct gaskets and all.

I ordered the edelbrock airhorn gasket kit so I could do some tuning. It had 5 gaskets in it, I think, 2 were correct and 3 were not. I emailed their tech support to find out what the deal was, but they never got back to me.

I've been using parts-store rebuild kits ever since.

Edit: Here's a link to the kit I've been using for rebuilds: http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductDetail.aspx?MfrCode=NIE&MfrPartNumber=CK1037&PartType=428&PTSet=A
