Edelbrock carbs

I know that some will simply say put a holley on it but id like to tune my 1406 up a bit, I have a mild off idle hesitation and a bit of a exhaust gurgle/thump during light throttle (45 mph)cruise. Im reading that the 1406 is set lean from the factory and one of the first things im going to do is put a step spring on then do metering rods etc. It pulls nice through the gears but really only cleans up at the higher rpms, above 2800 or so.

Anyone messed with these at all? its on a newer gm goodwrench 350 with Edelbrock intake and unknown spec small RV type cam. everything is good ignition wise and im sitting at 14' timing.

APT adjustment should fix the lean cruise.

Your off-idle is that as you're accelerating? If so, maybe look at the accel pump linkage

Oh, and watch those heads, both of mine and a couple of other guys have had problems w/ them pulling the rocker studs out.

Yeah right after taking off from a dead stop, 1000-1200 rpm just a mild stumble

so what happened when the stud pulled out? symptoms? I know that this thing seems a bit down on power but im not really hearing anything, it runs smooth and pretty quiet

Was tough to start, down on power and had what sounds like a lifter rattle - like when you start in the morning or excessive valve lash - only it never goes away. It was a brand new engine when I got the truck - be surprised if it had 1k miles on it. Went to check the valve lash on them. Couple were off, buttoned it up. Started up and within a VERY short time it was back and this time the rocker was very noticeably loose.

Well I don't have anything like that. I got this thing and the Previous idiot had dropped it in and got it running and that's about it. I've about written it off as an exhaust leak honestly. The timing was at about 4* so timing it made it like night and day.
