So I have a set of small block aluminum heads. Performer, centerbolt valve cover. I think these are the 60859's but I will have to double check.
They are used. I just had them pressure tested (they passed) and also had them checked for flat. They are flat, not warped. They should be surfaced before install because of lines from the old head gaskets, but I did not want to surface them until they were ready to be bolted onto an engine.
The valves all check out fine except for one minuscule leak on one exhaust valve. Very reputable machine shop owner told me that its nothing to worry about, there could be a piece of carbon, or whatever and that they're in good shape.
I did not tear down the heads to examine or replace guides or seals because I dont have a use for these heads and will wait until I do have a use for them. But I would like to see if there is any interest from someone putting together a small block project.
New, these heads will run around $700-800 a piece and some machinists will say that even the new ones should be surfaced before install. A $300 valve job will get you reworked valves and seats, seals, media blast cleaning, and surfacing. Check your local prices, thats what I was quoted. OR run them if its a weekend warrior. The engine they came off ran excellent and very strong; no issues. I can estimate these heads as having 30-50K miles (at best)
So how much do I want for them? $1200. For this price I will include ARP head studs and Comp Cams roller tip rockers.
I'll try to get pics this week.
