One thing that would be a huge selling point for those looking to go 4l80e or 4l60e, can you add transmission control to the Proflo?
Go cheap non Vortec stuff
Alum intake $280
Dizzy $300ish
FuSpiterTeck $1000

Upgrade the distributor like you did and it’s another $200

You can get a sbc Edelbrock aluminum intake for under $150. Or I just got one for $42 shipped from my friendly neighborhood CK5er.

@mrk5 , the Proflo doesn't support an electronic transmission. They asked me about my transmission when I called Edelbrock. I don't know if there is a splitter for the TPS.
@Bent77 will tell you that a man trans is the way to go anyway.
And have you looked into the results that some guys are finding with a dual plane vs single plane intake? The Proflo is a single plane.
And the rest of us can't get an intake shipped as cheaply as you did.
But yes, it can depend on what you buy, but I believe that $100 - $200 dollars difference, if that's what it is, is worth it to me. As I said, I like how the ECM is separate and can be switched easily. There are other factors, too. But that's my preference.

Cheapest open plenum is $200 just to compare apples to apples

I'm still in the process of finalizing all the details on my ProFlo 4 setup but so far I like the Edelbrock MPFI. I had to screw with the linkage bracket and drill another hole. The throttle body is cast and not billet like previous systems I've seen before. The wiring harness is well made, the instructions are simple. The injectors look to be LS2 shorter style. LS1 and LT1 are longer and won't fit. The ECU is not designed to handle any boost but I wonder if a custom tune could be done if you ever wanted to. It does not control the transmission like others like Haltech can. The intake manifold is ok. My single plane Procomp EFI manifold seemed to slightly larger on the ports. Its hard to beat the price when you want a plug and play system that will work with most engines and has the all the features. I did not get the tablet since I have a couple Samsung Note phones and something smaller might be easier to fit on the dash. The gauge layout looks nice to have on the phone while driving and have it be dedicated to the vehicle to monitor vitals. You can download the app for free if you want to play around with the software and there's a demo mode. Looking forward to getting the engine started.

I think if I had to buy it again, I might opt for the other system which is the same price. It has a higher flowing throttle body and I read this intake flows pretty well.

So whats the big advantage?
Simplicity, works with high hp engines, easy tuning, cost factor when you compare other setups with semi tunable ECU.
Granted you can probably buy a used LS setup for the same amount.

The problem with a used 5.3 is you never know what yu are getting. Most 5.3s around here in Phoenix are beat to crap and already have lifter and bottom end knocks. There is a guy in Nevada IIRC thats sells guaranteed X amount low mileage 5.3 with turn key harness for your setup but you pay like 4K. Im just keeping with my low mileage 350 and redoing the top end with heads, cam and fuel system. The Pro-Flo is MPFI but not sequential so its a batch firing system like the old Tune Port Injection systems were. Still... far better than the TBI from the grunge age!
Edelbrock states that the Proflo 4 is sequential firing.
Agree on the used LS engines. I've had enough problems. I've seen 6.0 engines go for around 1000 to 1500 but usually high or unknown mileage.
This shows it be sequential, not batch.

huh... well that is one of the questions I asked Edelbrock when I sent them an email. it was a little muddy on descriptions. Even the instructions are different with the one in the link talking about the Hall effect sensors but the basic $1600 units not even showing a hall effect sensor int he distributor.
It would be nice if they are ALL in fact SMPFI. Hopefully I am worng and they all are.

Paul said it just so standard now that they do not include the description of the triggering system which is in fact a hall effect and ring inside the distributor. The link I had was for a Pro-Flo 2 one of the original Sequential EFI system systems so the instruction explain how the trigger system works etc etc. He said this is a common thing they get contacted on. Even their own site does not say Sequential and because Edelbrock didn't say it themselves made me to believe they were batch firing.

Just butting in, but if people are getting wrapped around the axle regarding batch vs. sequential, it's probably not that big a deal, unless something like coil on plug is being considered.
GM's switch from batch to sequential on the Corvette LT1's, from 1993-1994, meant zero HP/TQ change per their specs. I've seen anecdotal comments of +5-10HP/TQ from the switch. I had to look it up at the Corvette museum site, the LT1 is not documented well online.
