I've had this problem ever since I got the truck it seems like the throttle doesn't fully reset after I hit the gas. I have to open the hood and manually bring it back and it shifts just a tad, but that slight shift brings back idle down from ~1000 to 600-700 rpm. Carb seems to be an oldschool weber edelbrock 1405 except with electrical choke. I tried to spray where it links together with carb cleaner and then lubricate with 3M but that didn't help. I attached a picture of what the setup looks like. Maybe its gummed up on the inside of the carb? What do you guys think...

Below the pink arrows is what I bring back ever so slightly and it smoothes out idle. It just never seems to be able to get back to this position on its own

Seems like I'm gonna need to purchase a new bracket then! Any recommendations? Or what if I buy another spring instead and maybe double up so it pulls harder...

I agree with @sweetk30 . I find that having the spring working in direct opposition to the throttle cable keeps the throttle shaft and lever in a more balanced condition.
A simple bracket off of an intake bolt will do the job. And if necessary, you can shorten the spring a little. You just have to make sure that it doesn't get over stretched at wide open throttle.

Since you don't have an anchor point on the front the engine and would need to order something. I suggest in mean time to make the existing spring tighter. Use needle and slip joint pliers to re-bend the hook at the throttle cable bracket. Make the spring shorter by @ 1/4", this will put more tension on it and close the throttle. If it feels to hard to push the gas peddle, then a little adjustment is ok.

I too would like to see the spring in different spot. I do not like that it is on the TV cable stud, stuck between the plastic clip and the bell crank.
Something like this, https://www.summitracing.com/parts/aaf-all54167 , could be used on the front intake manifold bolt on the driver's side.
Spring could be fastened to carb bell crank here, red arrow.

That spring is universal bend and cut to fit, you will probably need new ones. You really have 2 in case one fails. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-g1320

Good deal all. This is the exact information I was looking for thank you guys I'll get these parts ordered and see what happens
