This is why I wanted to rebuild my steering box. I figured just the one seal needed to be replaced instead. What do you guys think. Change the seal or rebuild the whole gear box?

This is where I need to replace the seal. Is it as easy as taking out that clip and pulling the old seal out? Do you guys know what it is called. It would make things easier when I go to the part store if I had an idea /forums/images/graemlins/deal.gif Thanks for any help in advance /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif

Re: Name that seal? PIC included!

most part stores will only offer a full box kit. like $10-$15 for all the seals.

Re: Name that seal? PIC included!

Thats cool I did not know it would be that cheap. I will pick one up this weekend. Hopefully I can figure out how to get the thing apart /forums/images/graemlins/1zhelp.gif /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif

Re: Name that seal? PIC included!

Mine just started leaking bad there, after 21 years /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif If its really that easy I know what I'm gonna be doin' soon, and new rag joint too /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Re: Name that seal? PIC included!

AutoZone, Kragen and PepBoys I know for sure carry the "Input Shaft Seal" kit.. it's $6 and some change. You don't need to buy a complete rebuild kit. I also need to do mine... I was told it's a simple procedure.. you will only need to replace the seal and dust shield. There are other parts in the kit... just toss them in your spare parts box..

Re: Name that seal? PIC included!

Mine was leaking, i was too lazy to replace it at the time, so i just put in some brake fluid, not alot, maybe 3-4 capfulls. Leak is gone for now. for now that is...... /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

Re: Name that seal? PIC included!

After a run in with a tree and rock..on the side of a hill..."stupid quads with no lights and drunk wierdo's"

I blew my rag joint apart, the who thing not just the replacable part, I ended up getto rigging it to get home and the stress of not haveing a rag joint blew out that seal, I have it from a-zone 6 bucks, as for the rag joint it killed the non replacable part, so rather that patch a problem I am just going to do the double u-joint steering shaft.

Oly problem is I have the wrong shaft and colume /forums/images/graemlins/doah.gif

Alwell the truck is motorless anyways /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

easy fix to /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

Does anyone know how to get this stinking thing off? I got that c clip out, but can't figure out how to get the outer ring off? /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif

Re: Name that seal? PIC included!

You need a wrench that fits into the two small holes to unscrew it. I think it's called a spanner wwrench.

Re: Name that seal? PIC included!

What is that snap ring in the middle holding in? something under the outter ring?
