What I like to tell people about TBI is, it runs the same all the time! Steep angles don't affect it like a carb, and you can let it sit for a day, week, or month and it will fire up the same. The simple OBD-I system can give you some troubleshooting info when things go wrong, too. All you need is a paperclip, and decode the flashes of the SES/ Check Engine light.

I don't really have an opinion of the transmissions; I have a 700R4 which is nice because of the overdrive. It has been built by a transmission buddy of mine, and he says it should be good for 200k miles or more, properly taken care of. With my new low gears, OD sure is nice.

didn't we answer these? ;)

TBI is more user-friendly, more drivable... any EFI is that way over a carb.. fuel injection does EVERYTHING it can to stay running. whereas a carb does everything it can to die...

TBI will give slightly better mileage, and more importantly, it will run at any offroad angle.. whereas carbs will stall out on steep slopes...

tranny's.. 400's are the toughest.. but it's old tech, and not conducive to great street driving... trailrig, probably best with a 400.. any street driving, probably better with a 700.. the OD of a 700r4 makes it much more street friendly, albeit weaker.. a 350 is basically the same as a 400, but weaker across the board.. but can be built for better performance due to smaller internals..

Why is a PC better than a stack of encyclopedia's? Because it's more efficient.

Said best.

Turbo 400 is the big boy. If you tow alot or have alot of power or just wanna be a cool kid there is your trans

Turbo 350 smaller 3 speed auto. More efficient like Paul said . Perfectly fine in almost every rig out there. Can be very built. Small block unless it's beefy I would run a th350. Oh wait I do

700 is my favorite auto. If it's an early model and hasn't been rebuilt it will need to be sooner than later. Has a awesome first gear 3.06 compared to pretty close to 2.5 on both the 400 and 350. Doesn't handle heavy continuous towing very well. They got a bad rap when first out cause they deserved it. But a fully updated one will handle quite alot. Oh and there's that overdrive thing. In a dual purpose rig 700 wins hands down
