Well my last Thread got me thinking I could use some help in the the fuel delivery area. I want to Fuel inject my 454, but I want to do it on the cheap. I know I can buy a TBI setup from Affordable Fuel Injection for around $1,100+fuel line and odds and ends. I figure $1200-1500 installed. Can it be done any cheaper? and if so how?

Right now I have an old school Hi output 454 with a mild cam in it, headers, intake, large duel exhaust and I run a Quadra jet on it right now.

Let me know what you think?

I don't want to run a duel fuel system because i don't want to take up space for the second tank.

Honestly I would find all of it off another truck and install it. You can use an adapter for the tbi to your current intake and the dist will fit. My buddy that is currently doing this swap it going to use a holley blue pump. 1000 just seems like alot to me.

Yeap you should be able to grab a full TBI factory setup, including the adapter to use your current manifold, for less than $300. Than its just wiring and an intank fuel pump setup.

I did a TBI swap for less than $150. I has access to the parts truck for an extended period of time too though.

I dont know if i can do it as cheaply as you but I surly will try. One thing i do want to try and do is keep the airflow up. a motor is essentially an air pump and I have plenty of room for it to exhale, I want to make sure it can inhale as well. But i may have to sacrifice a little power for the reliability, and just suck it up.

a BBC tbi is 650, you can do the mods to gain cfm but with 85 percent VE you should be able to spin it to 5821. Hell I am turning my pile of crap of to 4500+ with a 460 cfm carb.

Pretty much the only reason I got it so cheap is by swapping transmissions from the parts K5 into a friends Suburban for them. They have like 10 kids and a K5 wasnt big enough.

I would get the parts truck if possible. Makes it SO much easier to have it right there vs running to the yard.

Injected mine for $500, which included a new pump, comp, prom and chip burned for my specs. pull wire from junk yard, with TB (large bore, 800 cfm is spec for a 454) use factory comp and adjust as needed.

I have the injectors in case they are not in the TB unit at the yard... and I am close to your 'hood

I have a full TBI on a 5.7 available right now. And a big block body with the heated adapter for your manifold. It is in Falcon Co on the engine. You could do the removal. Everything but the fuel pump is there. Even the frame up fuel lines.

If you don't want to use the bbc adapter you can get them at jegs and summit for about 35 that are shorter.

I know you said Cheap but for 1400.00 Fast Fuel has the System that we need. Comes with everything and if you all ready have a set up from fuel injection... (i.e.) return lines and all that jazz then it will be a lot less cause you obviously dont need to buy all that

If I can get this done cheap enough I'm moving it to the front of my build list. Right now I have to do something with my front end, Due to Breaking my drive shaft, but being able to control the throttle and not die as much on angle will help to keep me from destroying it again.

So here is the question, if I was to go pull this off of his motor or one like it, what all would you recommend to take for the system? I know the Obvious; computer, Harness, Throttle body... Any pointers. Id rather make one trip to where ever I get it then multiple, although that is a pipe dream. Also, In making it work on my 454, are there any sensors I can skip or that will be a pain to adapt to my motor? I want to make sure all of my Bases are covered. Then I just need to figure out what PSI fuel pump i need. I have one sitting at home on my garage floor, I just cant remember the PSI and don't know what this TBI would require.

Would I need a chip Made and if so where is the best place to get it?

Any modifications I would need to do to the wiring harness?

I have the technical skills to put it all together adn redo the wiring as needed, I just need to be pointed in the right direction. I have been a Q jet man for a long time, but its time for out with the old, in with the newer.

And all of the FAST systems I have looked at are too expensive for me right now. They do make a good system.

TBIs need 9-13 psi, but like 14 -15 better. None of the sensors will give you much issue. Mine is converted on a 4v intake, all works fine.

Only need a chip if the cam lift and or duration is different that what the TBI unit would have been installed on originally. If you have an aftermarket cam, chances increase for the chip. Some guys in denver will dyno tune the chip for the setup. Or call Howell, only cost me $100 for the chip burned to my exact specs.

A Vehicle speed sensor can be added to the speedo drive, or remove it from the chip if you burn one.

The only mod needed for the wiring will be just a few power in wires to the computer.

Speedo is out, i have not had a speedo in years. I just hook up my GPS unit I have and get the speed from it. As for the Chip, It sounds like I will need one. My motor is not stock, but it is not radical. it just have a decent roller cam in it, an Edelbrock intake and nice headers. also, its a 7.4 and the computer would be out of a 5.7.

9-13 PSI is good to know as well. keeps the cost of the pump down. I think the one on my Blazer already puts out that. I have one in the garage that will put out 60 PSI, I think, but that is way to much from the sounds of it.

Will I need a return line to the gastank?
