If you don't know anything about EFI, have never dealt with a swap, or have never ventured past your stupid carb and think EFI is a stupid waste, don't post about it!

If you think TBI is so much worse than port injection "for power", don't freaking post about it!

If you think that a TBI is just an electronic carb, go back into your cave and figure out what fire is!

I hate it! STOP POSTING ABOUT EFI!

I just get tired of people who don't know anything about EFI giving advice to others about it! The world would be a better place if we all had EFI :)

I'd love to have EFI...
If I ever get to the point of doing a swap I'll know who to ask. I remember reading quite a bit about the EFI work you'd done on your truck...

Rene...still running a stupid carb

Umm...so how do you REALLY feel? : )

So whats your opinion on going from carb to....

My feeling is, if you are getting rid of the carb, go EFI. TBI was a stop gap, and if you are going through the trouble of installing TBI, TPI can't be much worse...right? (harness wise)

I DO plan, if the right F-body donor falls in my lap, to EFI my truck.

Anyone noticed how much even donor F-bodies are going for now? EVERYONE is looking to do this "swap" now.

No anti-theft measures on your truck? No pity when its stolen

i just picked up a 86 z28 with the TPI for 800 bucks....so if you look around it shouldent be that hard to find.

I'm getting a complete TPI setup (hardware, harness, all sensors, computer, distributor) for $250 next week. Look around, this stuff isnt hard to find.

Oh, one thing that you didn't cover. EFI is so easy a monkey can learn it. Does that help?

I was gonna go with TPI, but HarryH3 was telling me that it's real easy to suck water up those things and he toasted his that way. So, I decided to go TBI. I just want to be able to still run at obcene angles.

I've got a mind like a . . . a . . . what's that thing called?

You'll love the TBI setup. I've never had problems with mine except for an occasional gasket going out and a fuel injector.

"My feeling is, if you are getting rid of the carb, go EFI. "

TBI is EFI.

Ok, I meant TPI. Do both TBI and TPI fall under EFI then?

I think any fuel injection system that is computer-controlled (as opposed to a mechanical system) would fall under the title "EFI" (Electronic Fuel Injection).

It's always darkest just before it goes pitch-black...

TBI is a GREAT EFI system! TPI on a stock 350 is a bit better.

Basic idea here and correct me if I screw this up, but this was the basic expanation given to me. Carbs adds air according to the amount of gas going in; EFI adds gas according to the air coming in. When a crab dumps fuel, air has to be added to get the A/F ratio right. EFI meters the air coming in and adds fuel according to that.

Also, all EFI is computer controlled, while there is mechanical and electronically controlled carbs.

Hey realsquash while your looking here i have a few questions if you know the answers i could use the help.First i'm switching a TBI for my carb. Its from a 87 blazer manual tranny.
1.I'm not going too use a EGR or VSS for right now i pretty sure that i while get a trouble code but do you know if these will effect the operation of the motor greatly.I will eventually have another chip burned but can't do it right now.
2.I would rather not have the low oil pressure switch in the system. If i bypass this switch and just connect the wires will it start and run fine this way.I guess what i don't understand here is how the motor starts with no oil pressure then switch over somehow?
3.The nuetral start switch wire.It shows in the diagram that it grounds it self in one of the two positions. Is it grounded too start or not grounded too start?

Thankfull for any help you can give me.Looking too work out as many bugs as possible before the big key turn.

Just as a note. All the stuff that i have read and figured out so far about the TBI has been easier then trying too get a carb tuned.

Actually, I think it could be simplified, in that EFI adds fuel based on what a computer determines. Even with a computer carb (all GM ones anyway) they would revert to fuel demand governed mechanically. (airflow, metering rods, vacuum, etc.)

Although a TBI MIGHT be better than a carb, the inherent problems with a carb, and its MAJOR problem, is that fuel is mixed with air way too far before it reaches the chamber. Here, TBI and carbs are the same. The air/fuel mix has much further to travel, (plus it has bends and such)and the fuel more time to drop out of "suspension". Port injection solves this, by mixing it just before the cylinder.

I am in no means an expert in this field, but I am paying as much attention as possible, since I can foresee myself doing the TPI swap.

I'm sure there are many other differences, pro and con,

Dorian
