see below- I'm guessing this is the EGR valve? Should this be cleaned every once in a while? can I clean it without removing it?

Nope, that is the vacuum advance for the ignition timing. EGR comes off the exhaust into the side(front) of the intake manifold.

not even sure I have one .... my truck is 350 TBI that was coverted to carb.

that was it is.... I have a Edelbrock alum intake.....with Edelbrock carb

Yeah the EGR would be on the pass. side of the intake right below the carb. You probably don't have one on the aftermarket intake. If there is just a plate with two bolts in it then it's gone.

To answer your question, no, you don't need to clean the oxidation off the vacuum advance canister. Unless of course that's the kind of thing that bugs you.
