What EGR valve should I have for a 1988 5.7 vin:k. I see lots of discussion and also controversy about this. I want to put the correct one back on. I also understand there are generic ones that may or may not perform correct.

Please advise....

I doubt there were that many for engine code X Y or Z, but with some time I suspect the parts manuals linked in my sig would get you the OEM number.

Controversy comes from GM using a metric ton of different EGR valves, which is where the problems with universal parts comes from. I don't recall all the EGR valve criteria, but heck, they could have even used different ones AC vs. non-AC. I doubt it, but it could be. Or, there could be one valve for engine code X, for your year.

EGR Soga

So the soga continues. The dealer ship OE number was 214-5074, the unit came in a AC delco box, but says made in china. Now I have no history of the one I took of the truck, but they look different...

The one on the left looks aftermarket. Especially with that sticker on the top.

Based off the one I recieved for my truck, I'd say the new one on the right is the more correct one. Mine also said Made in China.

There are some that have "Made in USA" and some with "Made in China" with that GM part number. I had one that said "Made in China" but it only lasted about a year.

I was able to get one that was made in the USA. Not sure if they are really different but so far the USA one is doing great. Go figure.
