Can a bad EGR cause a rough idle?
Can a bad EGR cause a rotten egg oder from the exhaust?
Can a bad EGR cause a surge during cruising speed(55-60mph)?
Can a bad EGR cause pinging only when the engine is warm?
I have a 87K5 350 TBI.

a bad EGR valve can cause a lot of problems, the most noticeable is a rough idle and pinging at crusing speeds. The rotten egg smell is coming from the catalytic converter, which is usually caused by a rich mixture.

I replaced mine around 3 weeks ago. I also picked up a new O2 sensor while I was buying stuff. The EGR will cause your truck to run VERY rich. The job was easy, and other than sorting through umpteen hundred orfice flanges to find the right one it only took about 20 min.

YES I WOULD SAY THIS IS THE EGR , SMELL IS COMING FROM THE CONVERTER. IF YOUR TRUCK HAS MORE THAN 50,000 MI I WOULD
CHANGE CONVERTER TO HIGH FLOW TYPE.

My EGR caused an off idle stumble and just poor all around performance... i have no cat(thank you Alabama fog not having vehicle inspection)when your engine is cool reach up under the egr valve and push on the diaphragm if it doesnt move or is really hard to push up it needs to be replaced or just unhook it totally(thanks again alabama)Someone told me you can also just clean the egr...guys?
