Egr?

Do I need it? My 84 6.2 N/A C code has it. Can I unbolt it from the intake manifold? If yes, then what do I do with the line that goes into the air cleaner? I want to fab a custom air cleaner, but the EGR is in the way.

You can't just unbolt it, you'll have exhaust gases coming into the intake fulltime. On my '83 pick-up the EGR was tampered/disabled by someone a long time ago (I know the previous owner) and what they did was unbolt the EGR, then install a freeze plug in the port below the EGR. They also added "J" code intake gaskets which have block off plates. My EGR was bolted back on as "window dressing", but it doesn't have to be there at all anymore.

You could also swap to a non EGR "J" code intake.

So, how do I remove it? You got me confused.

Go to the parts store get some J-Code Intake manifold gaskets and a freeze plug that will fit the hole in the intake manifold after you remove the valve. Remove manifold replace gaskets put back on and stick the freeze plug in the intake manifold hole.
