I was thinking about installing an egt gauge on my 6.2. How do I do it?

Thanks

is it turbocharged? (would be aftermarket)

if not then you can put it in either manifold. you want it at the end of the manifold just before the exhaust flange. most of them are 1/4" NPT (pipe thread) just drill the hole and then run the engine for a few seconds to blow out all of the chips. then tap the hole and run the engine again. use anti-seaze on the threads. you want the tip of the thermocouple to be in the center of the pipe. and make sure to run the wires from it away from the exhaust.

Just priced EGT guages and they are over 100 bucks. Any suggestions on brands or anything to look for?

I used an Autometer Ultralite II in my dodge. It was very staight forward of an install. You just drill & tap a hole in your exhaust manifold and plumb the lines into the cab. Hookup the wires and your set.

If you have a turbo plumb it preturbo so you get an accurate reading of actual temps.

Ordered VDO guages today for boost and Egt. when you say pre turbo should I put it in the non turbo manifold?

No, you'll have mount it to turboed manifold, before the turbo so you'll get the actual temp of the exhaust gasses entering the turbo.

OK. I got it. I have to search for more pieces next weekend to get ready to install it. I was reading an article and found they were doubling the horsepower to the rear wheels with the turbo on a 6.2. even half that would be cool.

the turbo is good for around 80hp/120ft-lbs.

This all depends on the amount that you turn up the fuel.

how much should I adjust the fuel. I think I read 1/4 turn. is that a lot?

1/4 at the most and that's after you install the guages. I've read several people were satisfied at 1/8 turn.

I am not kicking any black smoke now so I will try a quarter. I evacuated the AC today at the shop so I can 86 it. might do that tomorrow. I cant wait to clean up under the hood and get some of the crapola outa there.

I would turn 1/8 first and see, then if you feel it can take more give it more.
