Eileens 79 Corvette resurrection. It survived 1450miles on Power Tour

Upgraded roadkill style!
Um. No

Last year a guy tore his engine down to a short block in the Summit parking lot. I had diagnosed a wrist pin by the sound and location.
He swore it was cam.
Put it back together with new cam, lifters, push rods rocker arms. Noise was still there.

He headed back to Maine the next morning. His buddy texted me that he made it into Virginia and it came undone.

And 100 miles of that was in the rain.
I had never tried the intermittent setting. It works??? Has a nob to rotate for delay. Turn it on...
Wipers run once.
Delay 10 seconds, wipers run once.
Delay 3 seconds, wipers run once.
Delay 30 seconds, wipers run once.
Delay 10 seconds, wipers run twice.
I never adjusted them after turning them on.
I was laughing while not being able to see. Just ran them on low.

Update. 900 miles into the trip.
I figured out that there is a sweet spot on the AC control that switches to the upper vents. AC works great. But the car warms up more than I like under 15mph. Above that, it runs 5 degrees warmer. So an electric fan will fix that issue. Also needs an AC idle solenoid. Drops the rpms too much.

Uses 1/2 quart of oil every 250 miles or so.

12 mpg or so. A lot of idling each day.

Ran it down the 1/4 mile today. I failed miserably

900 miles in and oil is all you’re struggling with, that’s good

What happened at the track?

Did tech. Which was signing a release. I had the hood up and helmet out. No need for either.

I still put the helmet on just before pulling up. But I couldn't see. Everything was foggy. I am stressed about what is wrong. Stage. Leave at 0.292.:yikes:
Mash the skinny peddle and off I go. Can't see the tach very well. By ear I hear 5k rpm or so in first. So I back off a smidge. That shifted into 3rd. Fell on its face. Pulled it into second and just drove it to third.
15.7 at 87. I did not care to wait in that line again in the sun.

Took my helmet off and realized my glasses were in the passenger seat.:doah:

The car got me home. Ran fine until I tried to head home. It would run fine fora while until I needed to pass someone. I would get half way though the pass and start falling on its face. I could smell raw gasoline. Did this repeatedly. Nothing changing in the gauges except 5* higher during AC use.

Did many RPM tests. I could not make it consistently do it. Was driving me nuts. I had to hit the shoulder once thinking it was going to die. Always came back.

Talked with Mark (bent77) as I was driving, in the Corvette, with open exhaust, wind blowing. But we conversed and he suggested lower the floats. I set them at 50% in the sight glass per the directions. Mark said they always ran them at the bottom. I stopped in a gas station. Pulled the tools out and adjusted them. I went to about 20%. Seems to have fixed that issue and a very small stumble off idle.

Why did it run ok for 5 days, then not. The driving wasn't any different. The only thing I can think of is some crappy gas. I filled by Indianapolis speedway. So was it boiling over? I filled at 1/2 of a tank. Seemed a little better, buch not much.

Crappy gas or different specific gravity
You said it cleared up the low stumble though. That was there day 1, but a good victory for when Eileen gets her car back

What was the average mpg, still close to 12?

Not sure if it’s the problem but I noticed that gas in Indiana is E15 unless you get 93. Signs on the pumps warning of such
