Electric Fan Realy

so i just wired up my electric with a new relay and thermostat. the problem is when i put power to the relay the fans come on when the engine is still cool. when i unplug the wire to the thermostat the fans shut off. would a bad thermostat cause this or is it the relay ? Thanks

Fan Switch your calling the "thermostat" right? If it's grounding at a lower temp it's bad.

The fans turn off when the ignition is off right?

if the fan switch is grounding the relay when it shouldn't be, that's your problem. Check it with an ohm meter.
