After adding my engine cage I can not fit the windstars anymore(the big motor hits the tube) So I need new fans, trying to decide to go push or pull. Anyone have any opinions on which is better?

just a note..

A mechanical fan usually will always out flow an electric fan

You could always have both push and pull (on separate circuits) one for normal use and the other for extreme use or when in need of more movement..

one on each side....

Thats what I was thinking, cutting up the windstar shroud and run the big fan that fits, and then put a small pusher on the other side. I have never had an issue with overheating, one of the windstars combined with my 4 core BB radiator cooled it really well. I just like to have the extra for insurance purposes

take note on the fans your cutting up tho.
if the blades were formed to be a puller, then it wont work as good pusher.unless its a straight blade design then it matters not.

Yah I'm smart enough to figure that one out. The larger diameter windstar will be used in the rear with most likely a custom shroud. Then a small pusher fan for the front. The small 11" pusher fans are cheap and that fits into my budget since I just spent 3 grand on Injectors for my dmax.

I've never had any luck with Pushers.

Have always heard and experienced Pullers to be better. CFM is your friend, larger fans, higher CFM.

Good shrouding is just as important as the CFm of the fans.

redo the tube so the windstars fit  I have yet to hear anyone ever say that the windstars did not work.

I was thinking about that but time is something I just do not have. I want this thing done by april/may. I have a bunch of these from kert so I guess I could use them.

That would be fast and easy :)

rock on. just throwing it out there since sometimes you get caught up in an idea and the little things can slip under the radar til your balls deep. (yah, like that ever happens) sucks bout the dmax.

According to Ford cooling engineers, a pull style fan is about 10% more efficient than a pusher fan. You can check that out in the May 2012 issue of CarCraft Magazine, page 36.
i believe i'd heard that before as well but wasnt sure where.

The only problem with Ford engineers is that the New Explorers, have overheating issues.......There fans are junk...So i dont trust what they say

Never had luck with pushers either. Seems dumb to put a giant fan on the front of the radiator and block all that space instead of behind to putt it through.

Plus there is a reason almost all setups are pullers

I've always heard pullers are more efficient... in any manufacturer... would make sense as ANY car on the market uses a puller...

edit - Chris beat me to it....

but the windstar fans are supposed to be great. also made by ford cooling engineers?

throw in the Mark IV fans that many people run.... never had an issue with my Windstars....
