Ok,
Ditching the mech fuel pump this weekend, and going to electric.
I need to know if I am going to need the return line?
Right now The supply goes from the pump, to a separate filter near the carb, that filter has an outlet for the carb, and a smaller one off to the side that goes to the return on the frame rail.
Still necessary with the electric? I'd like to get rid of it if i can, just for the sake of cleaning up the engine bay a little, and one less hose full of gas sitting on top of the hot engine.
Is there something in the carb that will keep it from overfilling with gas?
School me please.

I'm not running a return line on mine, but I have a fuel pressure regulator.

I would stay away from the Holley pumps unless you enjoy hearing the noisiest fuel pump in the world :doah:

Not sure what brand I'll get yet. It'll probably end up being whatever they carry at Checker, or AZ, or Pep Boys.
I did find a whole gas tank from an 87 with TBI on craigslist for 75 bucks.
That would give me the in-tank pump, and a new sending unit, so my gauge might actually work again. I may go that route.
Still, its used, so maybe the aftermarket pump on the framerail is better.

Yeah, there's a fuel pump in that fuel tank but it probably runs 4-5 times more fuel pressure than your carb will want. It will make your carb run VERY rich.

I only run 2.5 or 3 psi of fuel pressure on my Q-jet

You'll want to stay with a return line of some sort. The return line will keep the fuel circulating keeping the pump cooler, the fuel cooler and keep the fuel pressure from creeping up.
Is it mandatory? no, but the benefits will make it worth while.
