Picked up a frame mount electric fuel pump for my tbi conversion. How should I run it inline? Cut the hardline and just splice it in with rubber fuel line? This swap is starting to wear me down!

That should be fine....just remember to flare the hard line where the hoses attach.

If you have small hands or cut a hole in the bed floor you can attach a rubber line to the pickup at the top of the tank. Or you can cut the hardline in the framerail. Flaring it is a good idea but not totally necessary. Use a good FI hose clamp (they are different then normal hose clamps) to clamp it on the line.

There is a place about 1/2 way down the framerail where the hardlines have a 4" gap that is softline and you can then use the hardline to get back to the front of the motor and again run soft line up to the TBI.

Get a good pump like a Walbro and keep it mounted as low as you can to help it gravity feed from the tank. FYI your truck already probably has a plumbed return line that you can hook into to get your extra gas from the TB back to the tank. My 85 already had one, but I didn't figure that out till after I had already done an alternative thing.

Yea I have 4 lines running into the tank so I think I do already have a return. I got a cheap pump for now but I will switch it out to a good one when this one goes. Thanks for your guys help!

What is the difference in a FI clamp vs any other one? Got a link to them? Thanks

I've never seen or heard of a different clamp for FI but the fuel hose is definately different, (rated for higher pressure).

There are no little slots in the clamp on an FI clamp. You can find them at most auto parts stores but they are generally over by the PVC valves, thermostats, etc. This is what they look like. FI fuel line is also different and much more expensive. 3/8" FI line is usually about $5-6/ft. but is rated for FI pressures. Some people say TBI doesn't need it cause it is under 20 PSI but better safe then sorry. You only need FI rated softline on the pressure side of the fuel pump up to the fuel rail. Before the fuel pump and on the return side the pressures are low and normal softline is fine.

I can get FI hose for the same price as non-FI so thats no big deal. I will probably flare it and use those clamps just to be sure there are no leaks

If you can get FI hose for the same price as non FI hose I need to place an order. FI hose cost $6/ft and Non-FI hose is $1-2/ft down here most of the time.
