just installed an electric fuel pump on my 83 6.2 diesel Blazer. I installed the pump and filter on the passenger side frame just behind the wheel. It is above the fuel tank. There is air in the fuel filter that isn't coming out. By air in the filter in the filter I mean 90% air 10% fuel. It runs great as long as the fuel is at the out side of the filter. Do I need to mount it low to get the air out. Or just fill the filter with fuel prior to install? Thank you for the help.

Its not uncommon for a "see through" fuel filter to look only half full or less--its got something to do with fuel vapor pressures, you can google "why wont my fuel filter fill all the way" and read lots of posts about this..as long as it runs OK and doesn't starve for fuel,I wouldn't worry about it..I've had engines that ran fine with the filter only 1/4 full, even wide open on the highway it wouldn't starve for fuel..
Its just one of those weird things I guess..:dunno:

yep, as long as it run fine, stop looking at it

if it give you problems, you might need to mount the pump lower than the tank

The electric pump I put on my 6.2 is mounted on the cab crossmember about a foot above the tank, and I haven't had any issues since 2003 when I put it there..

It did have a fuel filter like a Ford uses with 1/8" NPT threads, that screwed into the electric pump's inlet--that one clogged up two times when I first installed it within a few hundred miles, then no trouble..--since then I have replaced the fuel tank with another good used one I know was nice inside,no rust or crud like the leaky one had,so I deleted that filter--the "sock" in the tank is going to stop any crud before it'll get to the pump, and I also replaced the entire metal line with 3/8" copper, from the tank to pump, and pump to the big filter on the firewall...

This is the pump I used...puts out 5-7 lbs..I left the mechanical lift pump intact also..engine seems to run smoother with a tad more pep with the "extra" fuel pressure...makes bleeding the fuel filter a cinch too...
