How many psi does it take to run our trucks. lets say a 400 hp small block chevy (350). I'm thinking 12psi. I want to add one to my truck.....what if the pump I got was too big? What would happen then.
Thanks
Adam

My Holley blue pump puts out (*I think*) 14 psi unregulated. I am running a Q-jet and have the pressure regulated to ~3 psi. I have no fuel starvation issues.

If I had to do it again, I would run a mechanical pump. My electric one is really noisy and if it ever fails, will be difficult to find a replacement. I pretty much have to buy a brand new one if I want a spare. The mechanical one would probably have moved enough fuel. 400 hp isn't really that much power compared to the drag racers that really need aftermarket pumps.

How about running a mechanical pump with a "booster pump". http://store.summitracing.com/partd...836965+4294891681+4294908395+115&autoview=sku
Just something that I can get into the truck with flip a switch then start the truck up then shut the electric pump off. My engine runs fine.....I just want a little aid when I go to start it up. It's just kinda slow on the whole start up side of things...granted i'm kinda use to a 2001 dodge 1500. I think i'm the only one in the world that likes the sound of a electric pump pumping. Plus once my truck is started I really don't think you would be able to hear it.

i ran eletric,my buddies run eletric,i still run one and have never had a problem...i just like the control of them better than a mechanical..i have had problems with mechainical though...

My truck starts up so easy its not even funny (and always has, even with the mechanical pump and the stock 350). My cousin joked that it only needed one cylinder to fire before I could cut the starter.

If you need an electric pump to help with startup you are probably letting the fuel bowl go dry (letting the truck sit for long periods of time). An electric will help with starting in that situation.

Not sure of what amount of pressure would be best, or ideal. But, I had an electric pump on my ol' 77 carbed 350. I first got it when I couldn't seem to get rid of a vapor lock issue. But, I enjoyed the other bennies of it too. Much better in hill climbs at keeping the fuel moving, and easy starts as well. It lasted about 8 years (lots of miles though) and then I installed the exact model onto the old brackets. It's was still going years later when I sold it.
