I dread the day that the government starts forcing all of us to only have electric vehicles.

Could be sooner than we think...depending on what happens Tuesday

Then we all will be stuck at home. How are we going to generate enough electricity to power all these? Nuclear? Nope. Coal? Nope.
Solar? Hahaha. Wind? Hahaha

Yep the current electrical grid can't handle even half the current U.S. fleet going 100% electric. And since the greenies don't want anymore coal, natural gas or nuclear plants I don't know how they are going to get the power. Solar and wind can't sustain the current grid, only support it. Technology will continue to advance but it's not going to happen at the same place that they are stuffing electric vehicles at us.

Make the whole roof and hood solar panels like that other car that was posted. It would charge up all day and you'd have a great daily commuter.

I've been dreaming of electric crate motor swaps for years. Glad to see manufacturers are starting to move in that direction.

I hope I die before then..

Electric vehicles are nothing new,I think the first one preceeded the gasoline powered cars..but after 130 years, they still haven't made a battery that can compete with gasoline power..try towing a camper across country with an electric truck..up over the rocky mountains..
You'll be sitting still recharging it more than driving it..

Hell,we can't even buy a 12V battery that'll start our vehicles that has more than a 5 year warranty now,and most don't even last anywhere near that long....wait till the electric car battery needs replacing--you have 3,000 to 10,000 bucks to spend on one ?..never mind the "disposal fee" they'll likely want..

I've delved into the interest in electric power for our trucks on here a few times before, from a performance Offroad standpoint its a win but the cost and battery technology just isn't there. Of coursetheres the lack of viscera, v8 sound.
As far as the government forcing us all to go electric theres really nothing to be worried about. The environmental impact of electric cars is far worse than the carbon monoxide produced by internal combustion engines by far! It really minescule comparedto the mining of minerals and fuel used for shipping all these parts is far worse. IMHO I think it's just another kitch idea to appease the greenies that just doesn't work.
The only way I could see the government tryin to impose this is if their palms were generously greased by manufacturers lobbyists.

They can ban the sale of new internal combustion engines but they can’t ban them outright. I have no doubt there’s an all electric future but it’ll be decades from now.

Yeah they won't ban our our burnners, they will regulate the crap outta retail fuel sellers, until it to much trouble to remain open. < This is already happening. Then add an environmental tax to our registration fees.

I guess you've never heard of locomotives. They've been diesel generators running electric motors for 80 years. Last I checked, they can pull a little bit.

The key word is DIESEL...they still need a fossil fuel engine to power the generator & electric motor....as do most "hybrids"..
Batteries are still unable to compete by themselves..

I get it. I was just focusing on the part of your statement, made it sound like the electric motor wasn't up to pulling. Obviously, the battery life is the key. That's why I wish all the hybrids were built like the VW XL1 that gets 240+ mpg, diesel gen running electric motors. And instead of banks of heavy caustic batteries, it has a capacitor to capture energy during regenerative braking that discharges quickly to help get going again. No need to haul around all those batteries.

I actually rode in a "Reddy Killowatt" electric car with my dad,it was a promotional car from an electric company that the gas & electric company he worked for used as a meter reader / utility vehicle ..
This was around 1970,I was about 12 years old..

He drove it in a parade in our hometown, the person who was supposed to drive it was ill ,so my dad was chosen to fill in for him..

We made it about 3 miles, but when we went to turn off the main street out of the parade route after some warning lights indicating a "low battery charge" came,on,we only made it about halfway up a steep hill about 1/4 mile long, and we sat there awhile, and the batteries recovered enough to turn it around and go back down the hill, and we made it back to the electric company plant site by using an alternate route, which included going down a few one way streets the wrong way..we crawled into the parking lot going about 5 mph..:rotfl:..

My dad wasn't too impressed with the thing,it had a big sticker on the back saying "car of the future" if I remember right..he said "I really hope its NOT what we'll be driving around in years to come!..

I actually found a company newsletter / magazine the gas & electric company published monthly that had a picture of us in the car in the parade..however ,I went searching for it more than once and can't find it now,dammit..
