So yesterday I finally came back from work before dark and proceeded to take the motor apart.
I laid the pieces down in order then I got to the permanent magnet and I flipped it before setting down so I don't forget.
I took the front parts off the shaft so it wasn't too hard to put the brushes back on the rotor.
As I am assembling it back together I flipped the magnets,
.
I try it, and it's still backwards.
WTF.
So I take it apart again and inspect it carefully, there's traces of rust to show where it matched on the side and sure enough it was upside down, that is when I realized what I had done, a double negative...
Anyway put it together and it works great and seems to go better now that the brushes are kept tight on the rotor.
Pictures might not be in order.

...guess I need to watch what I'm doing better..

...I tend to "misplace" things a lot more often too...sometimes I find them right where I left them--other days they remain among the missing until days, weeks,or months later,I go looking for something else, and the missing object appears ..
