I have searched and searched for this, i may just not be using the right keyword combo. I have, obviously, a np205 out of an 80 3/4ton. It has a slip yolk output that i would prefer to retain, as i dont really have the extra cash to convert it to a fixed yolk, and then buy the driveshaft on top of it. So i have seen several companies that offer a buffer that screws into the original cable operated case, and then plugs into my factory wiring and working the speedo and all that other stuff. I have never seen a review or anything on them describing how good they work, a part number or if its even a 2 or 4 pulse sensor. I have run the truck for 3 or so years with a 350 without it ever working and it was ok, but i put in a BB a few years ago and its never ran quite right, kinda stumbles as i come off the throttle at real low crawling speed, and the 350 never did this. I know it controls the EGR, idle speeds, and a assortment of other stuff, but the only thing bothering me is this tiny little stumble, and i plan on starting to drive it on the road instead of it rusting up my driveway and would like a speedo just cause. So can anyone give me some insight on one of these contraptions or point me in a direction so i can look?

use tone ring from 241 inplace of the speedo gear. will need tine bit trimmed from thickness to match the speedo gear thickness.

then gut / plug the mech speedo cable adaptor and leave in.

machine flat spot and drill/tap for 241 sensor .

make sure you get the air gap correct .

bam you got eletric speedo.

lots have tryed the mech to electric. some get it to work most dont from what i have read.

and if you didnt change stuff for the bbc then chip work is needed.

I seen that writeup awhile back, i was just hoping to avoid it out of basically pure laziness . I have to install the crossover I have yet to order, a handmade 1/2in zero-rate to move the axle forward for the driveshaft so that i can then measure up and weld me up a square tube driveshaft for the front, put the dash back in for the 500th time I think, put most of the door panels and interior back in it, and figure something out with this speedo gear, and i was just really hoping to not have to drop the t-case. And i have 2 weeks do do all of it, nothing like a little bit of procrastination to spice up your life. :haha:

Thank you for the writeup though BTW, i was hoping someone would bring that one up, so I can do it if i absolutely have too.

What year is your rig you're working on?

Its a 91 1/2ton 2wd body and most of the factory wiring harness with 89 BB TBI components and TB housing, with a TH400/205 backing it. I am planning on swapping the existing wiring harness out for one i got for free, which is a 91 3/4ton with a factory 4l80e that i also got for free so I can run the 4speed tranny which would really tame down the 5.13s, but that is a winter project. Plus it still leaves my existing problem of needed the speedo, as the 4l80 really needs it to shift and all that neat rot.

stupi simple and works also is 2wd 4l80 and use its 2 sensors for speed inputs. skip the tcase all together. lots of guys do this .

I talked about that with a few guys, but wouldnt that effect the 4l80 in with the tcase in low as its spinning twice as fast as in high but the tranny has no idea it is? does that make sense?

if you use the 2 sensors on the 4l80e like if it was just a 4wd it should be fine. as it dosnt know whats going on after it and dosnt care. only thing is you wont have a correct speedo reading if running electric speedo.

but little tip early 4wd 4l80-e had tone ring inside for rear sensor but bluged off. later didnt get the ring and bluged off. pull the plug and look inside for a tone ring.

if ring good to go add sensor. if no ring needs to be added = tear down and ad. but to get 4wd tranny from 2wd tranny need diffrent tail shaft anyways. and swap a oil plug out in the rear also.

search 4l80 here there is a massive thread on how to mate a 205 to a 4l80e.
