OK..so I got no heater controls..which I traced to a bad vacuum pump. I was looking at that big ugly thing and thinking about an electric replacement. It looks like all the vac pump does is the heater controls and the cruise control.

Meanwhile...my neighbor was changing the oil on his 6.0 liter diesel Excursion and I checked out his vaccum pump which is this cute little electric number with a little reservior and automatic shut off switch all built in. Anybody done this yet? I was thinking I could get the Ford pump and reservoir from a junk yard for less than a new mech pump for the 6.2....plus it would be way cooler Yes?No...Anyboy forsee any problems?

I don't see any problems, and you are right the only things it controls are A/C and and cruise.
You can get the cover for where the mechanical pump goes from a non A/C manual truck if you want to remove the pump altogether.

Iceman,
Do you have a part number/supplier for that pump-delete cover? My pump isn't being used and just gets in the way, if it does anything.

Thanks

I will try and look at mine and see if it has a part number showing on it.:D

I have used the furd vacuum pump setup a couple of times. They work perfect. I will put one in my crew cab when the cummins goes in.

OK...both of the big Ford-only junkyards here in LA said they didn't have...so I went to the internet. Turns out 12 volt electric vacuum pumps are used on numerous makes and models of vehicles, notably 82-86 GM "J" body cars with the 1.8 liter 4-banger, and a smattering of Volvos, Saabs, and Mercedes. ebay has a few right now and I can probably pick one up there for under $50. I am still searching.
