Electric Windows

1990 Blazer - need new window motors (i guess) for doors and tail gate. All the windows move super slow and need help to get up and down. My son drives this and is headed to college - I need them to work well.

What all is probably needed - motors, regulators? Where is the best place to get them and how hard are they to install?

Any help appreciated.

Its not the motors. Motors either work or they dont in most cases. This is a problem with these trucks. A few things you can do to help;

1) On the tailgate;

Lube up the Cable, take it off and let some good silicone or white lithium run thru the insides
Lube up the rollers and regulators and the tracks. alot of grime will build up in the track.
Make sure that the felts are in good shape as they can make window "bind" up.
Run a seperate ground from the motor to the frame
Possible take the motor apart and clean the brushes, they come apart very easily

2) On the side windows, do all the above (no cable though)

I did a comparison, lubed up both of the pass. side windows, swapped out the front motor. Both of them run faster, but the front gets done quicker then the rear. I got the motors at autozone, and cut a hole in the bottom of the door through the sheet metal to access the motor. Used the fiberboard to cover the motor hole. I have two double throw, double pole (I think that's what they are called)( cole hersee 55046-bx) that I will relocate the main window switch from the driver door to the center console. I don't like the idea of leaving the window down and letting water get on the switch. Besides it the motors slow down again, I'll lube them up again and if that doesn't work then I will swap out the motors again. This time it will be easier to get in there and they won't cost a dime to replace!

You can get it done through the access hole (without cutting any new holes) in the doors, you just need to think it through - Look how to fold the regulator and align it just right to fit out the hole. It is one of those jobs that is not hard, but tough to explain. You just need to do it to see how all the parts fit etc.

I just replaced my window seals on driverside and pass side electric windows. With the new seals being tighter now my windows dont have the power to roll up all the way. Would a higher amp alternator be enough to fix this?

Can I lube the felt that the window runs on? If so what kind of lube should I use?

Can't remember the name of it, but it is specifically designed to lube up the perimeter of windows. Call a glass company and ask them, maybe someone else will know, or even better we might have a glass guy in our mist!

Ya there is something just for the felt and rubber that surrounds the glass!
