Electrical help

the factory wiring runs through the swith then to the motor. With a relay it wont have to run through the switch.I think it would help with the windows going up and down.Hopefully an electrical guru while chime in with some more info.

Don't think it will matter. A) the switches would get hot and melt if they were a restriction to current flow, and B) if you've had one apart, you'll see that the contact area in the switch is at least as large as you'd get connecting two of the power wires that feed it together.

The problem is usually in the regulator, the rollers, the motors, or the tracks. I'm not old enough to have had one of these trucks new to compare, but I suspect that all GM vehicles of that era had window motors that were underpowered when new, and only get worse as they get older.

Yeah, the window motors were always underpowered, they still are hah

I believe someone sells more powerful motors.

I did this mod on my truck, it made a noticeable difference in the speed that the windows moved up and down. If you open the switches up and look at the contact pads, they are indeed large, but mine were all corroded / pitted due to years of arcing as they came together / came apart and probably didn't flow nearly as much current anymore.

I personally ran a heavier gauge wire directly from the battery to each window, then used two relays per window to control the up / down functions of each switch. Would I do it again? Probably not. There was a noticeable gain, but not anything fantastic...
