So I'm having problems my 73 blazer doesn't like to keep a battery chaged and when I tried to jump it the cables started to melt I'm not so great with the electrical stuff so I have no idea where to start to find the problem it has a newere moter in it that I ddn't put in I did put a different starter in and it's the same story so what do I need to do it will only stay charged for a couple of days

I'd disconnect the ground cable from the battery and see if it still goes dead (charge it first). If it goes dead when it's not hooked up, the battery's junk. Otherwise, you're gonna have to hunt down the ign-off draw with an ammeter, or turn off the dome light.:D

I was afraid of that I wish it would have been me leaving the lights on

Theres a method for this to see if its anything simple. Put a test light between the neg cable and negative terminal. Pluck fuses one by one til it either goes out or goes dim. Theres the circuit your short is in.

Thanks for the advice I'll probably try it tomorrow night. I don't really want to look at the thing right now....

Yep I felt the exact same way when my truck was doing it.
