Electrical problem...please help!

What a great site. Hi everybody. I am new to the forum and was hoping I could pick the minds of a few other chevy guys without going into the member forums. I have an 87 pickup and when I turn on the lights only the headlights come on. no tailights, no marker lights, no clearence lights. The brake lights work however. I replaced the light switch with a new GM unit but it didnt help. Any ideas? Thanks. Andy

check all your gorunds. trace all the light wires going from the tailgate section forward, including the liscence plate light for anything worn.

my problem was someone used the brown wire from the factory harness behind the stereo as a ground. it is actually a gauge light wire, but when off acts like a ground.
