My Blazer keeps shutting down on me! I had thought that it was the coil wire coming lose because when I touched the cap while the Blazer was running, it would shock the hell out of me! I changed the wire, and fired it up. It ran fine for about 2-3 miles then shut down on me again. I messed with the coil wire as well as the other 8 wires, but still would not start. I have an MSD cap, rotor, and coil. I also have the custom, make your own, spark plug wires from MSD. They were all installed approx. a year ago and have know problems til now. Anyone have any idea what would be causing this?

maybe a bad ignition module?...by "shutting down" you mean it just shuts off or does it stumble like running out of gas?

have you checked to see if your getting spark?....if not then id say the module is bad....you mentioned MSD ignition parts...are you running an MSD box or just the cap/rotor/etc?

Yea, it just shuts down, no stumbling. There has been times that it would should down, then fire right back up within a second or two while I am driving. I thought that the ignition module would need time to "cool off" b4 it would startup again.

not necessarily ive seen them shut off and start right back up like yours only to shut right back off again in about 5 minutes...take the module off and have it tested at a parts store by someone that knows what they are doing...you have to test it about 3 times in a row to get it hot unless it fails on the first test

I had a similar problem with my blazer, what it turned out to be was the wire running from the battery to the back of the alt. where it bolts to the back of the alt. it had correded and was cracked so it would not have full contact all the time, i would be drivin along hit a bump or go around a corner and it would shut off but fire right back up, took me forever to find the problem. the lil boot covered it up so i couldnt tell there was a problem. worth checking into, even if the wire is cracked somewhere it will do that also.

Thanks. Will look at that as well. I just recently changed that wire a few months ago, may not have made a good connection.

same here, but it was the positive wire from the battery to the starter. id hit a bump and the radio would flicker off and on. then it died in my alley for several seconds. i did a poor mans fix (highschooler then) and wrapped it in electrical tape. im going to replace all the wire in that thing soon.
