Last month I replaced the engine in my 86 K5. But I had some gremlins that just wouldn't let the new one run right. I replaced the dist., cap, wires, plugs and found a ground strap that wasn't hooked up. Timing was set.
Fast forward to last week, got the engine running right but it just wasn't getting power to the ground. Sluggish, bucking and kicking when it would try to go into overdrive and kind of fluttering(best word I could come up with) on acceleration. My mechanic says torque converter. Okay, finished installing the new one the other day. Ran beautifully.
Now yesterday morning I go out to start it and nothing. No lights, no buzzers, no radio, not even any clicking from starter. Jumped it with my wifes car. No more issues after that. Chalked it up as a fluke.
Today I go down to my mechanic to replace the seal in the front output shaft of my tc. All buttoned up and go to pull it off the lift and again, nothing. Had to jump it again. My mechanic tested the battery and it showed just below 12 volts. Okay, new battery.
On the way to Autozone my radio shuts off a couple of times. They test the battery get the same reading. I explain about the radio so he says alternator and checks it. Showing below 12.7 and putting out less than 30 amps. New alternator.
Came home and put it in. Fired up on the first try...YES...success. As I'm checking everything out I notice every time I turn on my lights my radio flashes as well as the interior lights. I shut it off to see what happens. Turn the key and nothing...AGAIN!!! I want to bang my head against the wall.
I checked wires and fuses and everything else I could think of with no luck.
Anybody have any ideas?
Sorry for so long. I've been told I talk too much.
