Electrical problems...Oil Press gauge.

Somewhere along the oil Pressure gauge wiring its grounded out. You unplug the sensor and its supposed to read zero when the ign is on, Right? Not on mine, it buries itselft past 60. Plug the sensor in adn it falls back to 60:confused:

I took the cluster apart, it has a NEW printed circuit in it. (burned one up trying to solve this:mad: ) And i have put 2 gauges from the clusters i have laying around in and i get the same result.

I did figure out today, that there are the 3prongs for it, the 2 on top and 1below in the middle the top right. one (see pic) is the source, the other two, if theyre connected the gauge doesnt do anything as soon as i connect the other it grounds out.

Anybody got any suggestions? Im soo bad at electrical :(
 
IIRC, the gauge should read 0 when you ground the wire, and it will peg right if it is unplugged, or open. Sounds like you have a bad sending unit.
 
wow...i feel dumb:doah: I always thought it was the other way around.

Hopefully someone else can chime in to confirm...
 
tis the other way... grounding the send wire pegs the gauge.. Thats how the senders work...
 
Where is the sending unit for the oil pressure gauge? Its not in the pan so is it in the block?

Thats what i thought...guess my circuit is grounded out somehweres, what confused me is that when i hooked it up it didnt ground out as bad. if that makes sense.:confused:


avery-behind the dist closer to the drivers side, should be a silver little canister thingy with a tab on the top.
 
You can run any old wire as a test from the sender to the gauge, just make sure it doesn't ground out.

Of course, with a continuity test, you can simply disconnect both ends of the sending unit wire and see if you've got continuity to ground.
