Ok so I bought the ezwire 21 kit a while back... still havent put it in yet. I did not choose the color coded kit which maybe a tougher decision...

however all the wires are still labeled the same with writing every 6-12"

so I thought I would start from the tail lights figuring this was going to be easy... well hell no it isnt...

so what I want to do is ask for input and help... when I am done I will have a full writeup on what I did, schematics, diagrams, etc..... but already thinking the back would be easy turned out to not be....

My wires running from the back of the truck to the front are in great shape so I am not going to replace them. I took them out and just checking things out.

my other goal is also to use my factory harness and plugs. The ez kit is designed to mount to the firewall and drill a 1 1/2" hole. Gromet the hole and run all wires through then throughout the truck...

well I found out that the fuse block is the same as the oem and the new one will click to the old other half....

Even though I will be keeping my existing tail light wires I need to patch the new fuse block with the wires on the inside of the cab.

Note: First note is the kit comes with NO ground wires

Part 1: Tail Lights

Current wires | what I believe they are
Light Green | Reverse Lights
Dark Green | Right Turn Signal
Yellow | Left Turn Signal
Brown | Parking Light

EZ Wiring 21 rear wire section: they bundle up the wires into sections and the following were in that section:

Wire Name | Number | Use (Y/N)
  1. Third Brake Light. | 19 | No
  2. Dome Light | 43 | No
  3. Trunk Light | 42 | No
  4. Electric Fuel Pump | 41 | Yes
  5. Fuel Gauge | 40 | Yes
  6. Right Rear Turn | 21 | Yes
  7. Left Rear Turn | 20 | Yes
  8. Left Tail Park | 35 | Yes
  9. Right Tail Park | 36 | Yes
So that is as far as I got...nothing hooked up yet and that is because I already have a headache.... so lets start with a diagram...

I see
RR Turn - Green
LR Turn - Yellow
LT Park - Brown

I dont see Light Green ????
also the ez kit Left Tail park and Right Tail park wires are not attached.. they just fell out... what do they go to at the other end???

Well I was able to get some done tonight... felt good too...

2 wires for rear...
left turn
right turn

and entire turn signal harness (e-p flat plug)

rear left and right I took from the flat plug and cut them and crimped to the factory firewall harness.... so far all good... but so many wires made my head hurt..... this is a pita but gonna be well worth it....

wow it has been that long huh...
i still havent finished this yet..
lost my job in january... got a new one in february.... and work later and stuff... finally getting around to do a little bit..
took one night and drew the harness
took tonight to visio it.... next is I would like to do 1 wire every 2-3 days...
that is how little time I have...

but I want to donate this to my chevy crew....
I am not great at this stuff but took a stab and think it looks good..

im going to document the entire thing and this is the key...

ez-wiring 21 Black kit back into the OEM harness

tell me what you think....

just an update... i took my time today.. even though im going to use the ez-wiring 21.. im putting it through my factory harness plugs..

anyway.. took out my lights harness... boy oh boy... cut wires with just twists and electrical tape, wire nuts, corroded crimps and other issues...

so I sat back quietly.. cut them out one at a time.... soldered the wires and shrink tubed them.... nice and clean.. all in new loom too... and new loom clips that hold loom to the rad support!!!!... looks nice..
then ran the lights back through how they go... so front is DONE!!!! except that i didnt do the relay upgrade yet.. but will do later....got to mount the relays and all.. figure ill get the truck back up and running then do that portion...

so my lights are mainly done.. but i decided to show my 9yr old how electrical items work...

used a test light and hit ground on the bat and positive... and the light lit...
then i went and hit the rad support ground bolt and no light...
searched around and had to run a ground from bat to rad support...
then that was good.. so I hooked up a wire with clamps on both ends to the horn wire and let him hit the battery.... i was never impressed with my horns... he hit it and it worked.. but not great.. so i walked around and found passenger side horn not working...
so took it all apart and used that adjusting screw.... got the horn to work..

now WOW my horns work great....
tomorrow I want to start on mounting my 200A relay and olds 88 relay/fuse pack to start getting the motor harness worked on....all this time i was focused on the in cab harness.. but this way is easier.. get the small stuff done first!!!!!!!!

more to come....:haha:

p.s. it feels great to work on the truck again.. been a long time..... took truck apart what about 10 months ago!!!!!!!!

glad you're making headway:waytogo: I faced similar hack-job-ery stuff when I did my rewire, but it is definitely worth it.

well im taking it slower...

but tonight i put the fuseblock in the truck..... partially mounted it..
dropped the column and hooked up the ignition wires and column wires...

gas down the carb and WOW SHE RUNS!!!!!!!

really nice too..
got 12v to the choke when before starting this I had 4.5v from a 12v source!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hooked up the electric fuel pump and it is running.... however not having any gauges (not one wire in the cab to the gauge cluster is wired.....)
low on antifreeze as a rubber grommet is bad..... going to try and put a screw in plug cuz the rubber ones dont last....

but progress almost 2 years later im getting there....

so now the lil wiring jobs like all tail lights, headlights horn, wipers and wiper washers....
