Emergency Brake Cables

Good Morning, Let me start by saying that I did search the forums and the question has been asked, but I do not see any answers so I will try again. I did a disc brake conversion to my ten bolt. The original emergency brake cables were too long. I simply need e brake cables from the main cable (that connects to the pedal and runs back to around the front leaf spring hanger) to the calipers that I installed. Does anyone know where I can pick these up? Can I make them with a kit? It seems so simple, but I cannot find anything that works. If this is a stupid question, I am sorry, but it won't be my last. HA!

When I did my 79 Cad Eldorado rears, I used a set of Cad rear cables and my Blazer front cable.

cables were the right length, had to use an adapter to to make it all work with the Blazer main single cable.

Excessive cable length is a good problem to have. There are options. You can use a swage tool to crimp a new ferrule stop at the end of the cable. I just did a el dorado caliper kit swap and I received a ferrule stop with an Allen set screw to tighten if the cables were too long.
I found my factory cables were to short. The cable housing mainly. Seems like they were stretched tight. So I did some digging and found other models with longer e brake housing cables and then cut off the excessive length. Bought a swage tool and crimped a stop on. I’ll try to post some pictures tomorrow.

I think Dodge was the company that started calling parking brakes "emergency brakes" back in the 50's. Ever since then people call parking brakes "emergency brakes".

im about to have a similar hunt for cables- the SF14 bolt that i put in the blazer is 2 inches wider than the 10 bolt that was in there... i think i reused all 3 sections of the original K5 cables. worked fine except at extreme articulation. the tire dropping out would eventually pull its cable tight against the "y" connector and one of the eyelets on the frame. I let it go for a while, and eventually popped the cast end off the cable inside the drum. :frown

I havent had a parking brake for quite a while. i also have a disc brake conversion i bought for this truck years ago, but have never had a problem with the drums... so now i need to go find new rear cables that will work, and/or maybe it is time for the rear disc kit to go on??

I ordered parking brake cables for a crew cab. The cable from the pedal was 4-6 inches longer than the k5s, same housing length. The passenger cable had a housing that was 4 inches longer and the cable itself was longer as well. With the main cable able to come farther back, it allowed the driver & pass side to give more slack in the housing to not be so taught. I then had to cut the cables to length and crimp new end stops on them. Only kicker was that the ferrules I bought a Home Depot didn't crimp correctly. Or I didn't use the correct size. I left the rear crimps ugly as to remind me of doing the job half ass. But I had to grind the ferrule on the main cable so it would fit in the slip joint connector.
Raybestos BC93682 for the main cable
Raybestos BC93684 for the passenger side
I did find that a G30 van had a housing that was 1in longer than the k5s (cable longer too). Sorry for no part # as I didn't order one.
