Ive been over this 84 K5 pretty much everywhere tearing things apart and have yet to see what id would guess to be the emission computer?? Where have they hidden the bastage before I drown it or something worst?

Emissions computer?

You should have a computer controlled carb and dizzy and the ECM should be under the dash up behind the glovebox.

I thought it was only '86 that got the computer controlled feedback Q-jet? There should be something for a ESC disty in the '84 though, and is most definitely up behind the glove box.

GM started using the feedback carb and ESC dizzy in either 1980 or 1981 in cars, maybe the trucks came later but IIRC when i was looking to buy a K5 years ago i remember looking at an 85 and it had the feedback carb and ESC dizzy.

that's weird, i have a 85 and it doesn't have one and a 86 (had a motor swap by po) but i double checked and there is no sign that there was ever a control box in it. the 85 is a east coast truck and the 86 i bought is a original TX truck. i also have a 82 jimmy (parts truck) and it does have it.

There is CCC, and there is EST/ESC. Both mount the ECM's/controllers in the same place. CA got CCC on trucks earlier than '86, '85 at the latest.

I bet if I go search on here I can find something for '84.

I dont know if this K5 is a Calif vehicle originally buts its an 84/350 with computered quadrajet,Cataclysmic converter,02 sensor, electric air pump controler,EGR controls like Ive never seen, and lots of other garbage on it. Funny how the 83 C2500 parked next to it has no cat,no electronic nada and half the vac lines. What the heck, booth still asphixiate you if within 5 feet of the tail pipe and get 10MPG.:wink1:

Come now! It makes much more sense to get the same economy at the expense of producing ten times the amount of emissions control devices! :)

If your trucks smell that bad though, you've got some tuning issues.

Why do you want to know where it is? If the check engine light isn't on, 99.9999% sure it's not the ECM. I'd add a few more 9's but I'd be wasting my time. It's not the ECM. Even with the light, can't blame the ECM.
