Emissions Evap Components

Hey guys,

One of the things my rig failed on the emissions test was the evap components. Does anyone have a diagram showing where things are suppose to be hooked up? i only have 2 hoses hooked up too it, but i has other spots to hook something up, i need to get it right before i try to emssion it again.

I may be able to shed some light on it . Mine passes every two years .

it's an 85. i just picked up a chiltons this evening, and it has some info on it in there. hopefully i can get it all rigged back up before the next time i go in. i'm thinking i'll try to tackle it this weekend.

Most of the time the people in there don't know where it is supposed to be hooked up to, only that it has to be hooked up to something. When I did my TPI swap I took it in there and had all the canister lines hooked up to different things and they didn't know that the things they were hooked to weren't the right things.

I had one hooked to the PCV valve, one hooked to the throttle body, one hooked to the air injection system, etc. That wasn't really where it was supposed to go I don't believe but that is what I did and they didn't know the difference. They just know it has to be hooked up to something.

Hell with my TPI setup the EGR valve doesn't even work, it just sits there and looks pretty for the E-test. It is there and they have no way of testing to see if it works so they pass it.

So very true , with the testers here . The only real test they can do to the evap is clamp the line off and pressurize the tank .

In my case ( 83 ) , I used a 78 or 79 tank , one line to the tank vent , one line to carb bowl vent , one line to pcv valve vacuum . Two on the top of the tank tee into the pcv vaccum . Thats as I remember , my rigs at home

I failed my tank test to the first time around after the TPI setup. I had disconnected the vapor line for the CC and it was free under the truck so when they went to pressurize it it failed. The fix for this was putting a vacuum cap on the line, putting a short piece of fuel hose over it to hold it in place & to hose clamp the fuel hose. Worked great.

All the charcoal canister does is look pretty too along with the EGR & Air pump. The truck still passes emissions like a dream with the MPFI.

maybe i'll just pick up some tubing, hook it up to the charcoal canister, and then run the tubes to where you can't see where they go
