Emissions Question

I picked up a '85 K5 that had the catalytic converter pulled off and made into a straight dual exhaust. I live in a county that requires emissions and will need one to pass.
My question is Does anyone know if I can just throw on a individual cat on each side of the exhaust or does it need to be like the original set up? It has the stock manifolds and other smog junk. Looks like someone cut the "Y"
out and welded on straight pipes from there.:dunno:

Not sure on your area, but here it has to be the setup it came with from the factory, meaning y-pipe into a single pipe, single cat. Some trucks came with duals, I don't think it was a very popular thing though, and I don't think those had cats on them either.

Good idea, just make sure it has the o2 sensor. Should be on driver side below the exaust manifold into the pipe. I live in Ca. and our smog laws are about the strictest of anywhere. If my truck ever dosent pass I change the 02 sensor and cat and it will always pass.
